The delicious aromas of glazed ham, baked macaroni and cheese, collard greens, marinated turkey, and candied yams hit Kehlani's nose as she made her way to the living room.
It was Christmas morning and she was finally getting out of the bed. The family did a small gift exchange the night before, but it wasn't anything over the top. Grandma Debbie didn't believe in the capitalistic and commercialized version of Christmas that was so mainstream. She saw Christmas as a time for family, creating memories, practicing tradition, and loving on one another
She wasn't surprised to see everyone already up. Aunt Jackee and Meagan were helping Grandma Deb in the kitchen. Her cousin Serayah was braiding her other cousin Zaria's hair. Uncle Tyler and her father Brian were watching a basketball game on ESPN and talking smack.

A/N: Debbie is the family matriarch. She's Jackee's older sister. Brian and Tyler are her children. Brian is the younger brother. Meagan is his wife. Zaria is their 16 year old daughter. Serayah is Jackee's 25 year old daughter.
"I see someone finally got out of the bed," Brian smiled at his daughter. "How did you sleep?"
"I slept okay," Kehlani yawned, scratching the back of her head.
