The air was warm and thick with excitement as the college fair unfolded around them, a sea of eager students and overwhelmed parents moving through the maze of booths and banners. Cameron, Robby, Arabella, and Luna wandered among the crowds, their steps in sync despite the noise. But there was something off about Robby. Cameron could feel it, the way his hand brushed against hers without the usual spark, the way his gaze flitted from one booth to another, but never lingered on anything. He seemed lost in thought, distant. She kept stealing glances at him, trying to figure out what was wrong, but Robby remained focused on nothing in particular.
"Hey, Cameron, check this out!" Luna's voice cut through her thoughts, pulling Cameron's attention toward a nearby booth. Luna was already talking to a friendly-looking representative from a well-known university. Cameron smiled but turned back to Robby, her eyes narrowing with concern. She had seen him this way before, but never in public, never when they were supposed to be having fun. His lips were pressed into a thin line, his eyes scanning the crowd without really seeing anyone.
Arabella, always perceptive, must have noticed it too, because she sidled up next to Cameron, glancing sideways at Robby with a knowing look.
"Something's off with him," she murmured, lowering her voice so only Cameron could hear.
Cameron nodded, frowning. "Yeah, I know. I don't get it. He's been like this all day."
Arabella raised an eyebrow. "Have you talked to him about it?"
Cameron opened her mouth to answer, but before she could, a cheerful voice interrupted them.
"Hi there! Are you two looking into college options?" A smiling representative from a local community college appeared at Cameron's side, holding out a colorful pamphlet.
