Cameron LaRusso strolled into West Valley High with the kind of effortless swagger that only came from knowing exactly who she was-and knowing that everyone else knew it too. She walked alongside Sam, Robby, and Miguel, the four of them moving in perfect unspoken sync, like a tight-knit unit heading into battle. There was something about their energy-calm but commanding-that made other students pause and move out of the way, instinctively making room for them in the crowded hallway. Whispers followed them like a current, students nudging each other and glancing over their shoulders as the legendary quartet passed.
Cameron's long hair was loosely curled, and she wore a zip-up Miyagi-Do hoodie with her sleeves pushed up to her elbows. Her bag swung off one shoulder, her walk relaxed, but sharp-eyed. She carried herself like she didn't have to try-because she didn't. She didn't need to peacock or posture; the work she'd put in spoke for itself.
Miguel glanced to his side, adjusting the strap of his backpack and exhaling as they rounded a corner. "Y'all think there's any chance we don't make it in the top eight?" he asked, keeping his voice casual, but there was a glint of tension behind his eyes. The Sekai Taikai tryouts were coming up fast, and for once, even Miguel-humble champion, unshakable warrior-sounded unsure.
Cameron snorted, eyebrows lifting as a smirk tugged at her lips. "Maybe when hell freezes over," she said coolly, flashing a look at him. "We've been running drills like maniacs. There's no way we don't make it. It'd be impossible."
Sam gave her twin sister a sideways glance, tugging on the hem of her jacket. "Seriously, Cam?" she said, half-exasperated, half-amused. "Try being just a little bit humble."
