Ruhanika
For a moment, time seemed to stand still. The dining room had fallen into a deadly silence that felt suffocating. I stood frozen, my mind struggling to process what Divyank Bhaiya had just revealed.
"What do you mean? Did someone try to kidnap me when I was younger? Who is he?" I finally managed to ask, my voice surprisingly steady despite the chaos erupting within me.
Papa and Bade Papa exchanged a dark look before Papa turned to me, his expression softening slightly as it always did when he addressed me.
"Anika, I think it's better if you go upstairs with Abhimanyu," he said gently.
I shook my head firmly. "No, Papa. Whatever this is, I deserve to know. It's about me, isn't it?"
Papa then said in a calm voice, but his eyes betrayed his anger, "It is nothing, Anika. Just an old enemy thinking that he could cross us."
It was at that moment that I realised that maybe my family was far more dangerous than I had ever imagined. Maybe this is why they are trying so desperately to protect me from the clutches of their life. But what they don't know is that maybe this is what I am meant to do. Maybe living this kind of life is my destiny.
Before anyone could respond, the doors to the dining room burst open. Two security guards entered, flanked by a struggling man who seemed determined to break free from their iron grip. Behind them followed a woman and a young girl—faces I would recognize anywhere.
Mrs. Senghal. Mr. Senghal. Prisha.
My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. What were they doing here? How had they even found me?
"Let me go!" Mr. Senghal demanded, his voice filled with the same authority he had used on me countless times. "I just want to see my daughter!"
Ansh immediately held my hand, giving me much-needed comfort. A guard stepped forward and said, "Sir, we found these people and thought that maybe they are a threat. We asked them to show their identities, but they started fighting and trying to go inside."
Mrs. Senghal said, "Why are you guys holding us? I wanted to meet my daughter once, so I came here. But these guards have bound us."
At those words, a collective chill seemed to sweep through the room. My brothers all tensed visibly, like predators preparing to strike. Bade Papa's expression darkened to something truly terrifying—a cold, calculated rage that promised violence.
Divyank Bhaiya was the first to move, stepping between the Senghals and me as if to shield me from their very sight. "Your daughter?" he repeated, his voice deceptively soft. "I don't see your daughter here. I only see our sister, whom you tried to steal from us thirteen years ago."
The accusation hung in the air like a death sentence. Mrs. Senghal's eyes widened in shock, while Mr. Senghal's face reddened with indignation.
"What nonsense is this?" Mr. Senghal sputtered. "I never even met Ruhanika until she was two years old, when Aruna brought her home!"
