Ruhanika
The worried faces of my family swam in and out of focus as Aadarsh bhai continued his examination. My head felt like it was filled with cotton, and the elaborate decorations of the palace seemed to blur at the edges of my vision.
"Sunshine, when was the last time you ate a proper meal?" Darsh bhai asked, his medical training evident in the systematic way he was checking my symptoms.
I tried to think back through the day's events. "I... I had some sweets earlier, and..."
"Beta, you barely touched your lunch," Maa said, her voice tight with concern as she appeared beside us. "You were so excited about the ceremony and meeting all the guests."
Darsh bhai's expression cleared slightly, and I saw him exchange a meaningful look with Papa. "I think I know what's happening here. Sunshine, you're showing classic symptoms of hypoglycemia—low blood sugar. With all the excitement today, irregular eating, and the stress of the celebrations, your blood sugar has dropped too low."
"Is it serious?" Armaan bhai asked, his usual playful demeanor replaced by fierce protectiveness.
"Not at all, as long as we treat it properly," Darsh bhai assured him, though his relief was palpable. "Sunshine, I need you to drink this." He produced a small bottle of glucose solution from the medical kit that, I realized, he'd been carrying all evening. "It'll taste sweet, but it'll help stabilize your blood sugar quickly."
The glucose drink was sickeningly sweet, but within minutes, the fog in my head began to clear. My vision sharpened, and the dizziness that had been making the world tilt started to subside.
"Bahut accha, much better," Papa said, the tension finally leaving his shoulders as color returned to my cheeks. "But Anika, you must promise us you'll never skip meals like this again, especially during important events."
"I didn't mean to," I said softly, suddenly feeling embarrassed that I'd caused such a scene on what should have been a perfect day. "I was just so caught up in everything."
"Meri jaan, you scared us," Divyank bhaiya said, his new royal composure cracking to reveal the worried brother underneath. "When I saw you looking so pale, I thought..." He didn't finish the sentence, but I could see the fear that had gripped him.
"Pequeño bebé, you need to eat something substantial now," Nishant bhai said, already signaling to the palace staff. "No more of these fancy party snacks. You need real food."
Within minutes, a proper plate of dal-chawal lentils and rice appeared, along with fresh rotis flatbread and sabzi vegetables. The familiar, comforting food had never tasted so good.
"Better?" Arhaan bhai asked, sitting beside me as I ate, his hand resting protectively on my shoulder.
"Much better, sweetheart," I smiled at him, using his own nickname for me. "I'm sorry I worried everyone."
"Arre yaar, don't apologize," Ansh said, though his relief was evident. "Just promise us you'll take better care of yourself."
"Haan, yes," I nodded. "I promise."
