The noise from outside got louder with every second. Cameras kept clicking and people kept shouting. Nishant looked around quickly - they were stuck at a red light with paparazzi all around them. He could see Ruhanika's hands shaking a little and how she had moved back into her seat, trying to make herself smaller.
"Pequeño bebé," he said quietly, keeping his voice calm even though everything outside was crazy, "remember what I told you when you first came home? About keeping your head high?"
Ruhanika looked at him, and for a second, he saw that scared fifteen-year-old who had come to their house months ago. But then something changed in her face - she looked determined, like she was ready to fight.
"Haan bhai (Yes brother)," she said, her voice getting stronger. "I remember."
The reporters kept asking questions, each one worse than the last. Nishant watched as Ruhanika's face got more serious, and she sat up straighter even though all these people were staring at her. He was about to tell their security guards to push the crowd away when she did something he didn't expect.
She reached for the door handle.
"Pequeño bebé, what are you doing?" Nishant asked, sounding worried.
"I'm going to talk to them," she said quietly, but he could hear she meant it. "They're going to keep following us anyway, and their questions... they're about my story. Maybe it's time I tell it myself."
Before Nishant could stop her, Ruhanika had gotten out of the car. The crowd got even louder as she came out, with cameras flashing everywhere. Nishant quickly got out too, staying close enough to help if she needed it but far enough to let her do this herself.
The paparazzi came closer, all talking at once and asking different questions. But Ruhanika didn't back down. She raised her hand, and something cool happened - the crowd actually got quieter because they could see she was going to say something.
"Namaste," she said clearly, loud enough for everyone to hear. "I know you have questions about my story, and I get that you're interested. But I want us to be respectful about this."
Nishant felt really proud. This wasn't the scared little girl who had been hiding just a few minutes ago. This was his sister - strong and handling this like she was born for it.
"Ruhanika, is it true that your mother left you?" one reporter shouted.
Ruhanika's face stayed calm, though Nishant could see her eyes change a little. "My mother made choices that she thought were right at the time. I don't want to talk about private family stuff too much, but I will say that I'm happy to be back with my family where I belong."
"But what about those thirteen years? Were you really poor?" another person called out.
"I was living a different life," Ruhanika said simply. "Everything that happened to me made me who I am today. I learned important things about not giving up, working hard, and being grateful for what you have. I wouldn't change those lessons."
Nishant was amazed. She had talked about her hard past without making herself sound like a victim or saying bad things about anyone. She was really good at this.
