The morning sun filtered through the ornate windows of the palace dining room, casting golden patterns across the marble floor. Despite the beautiful start to the day, the atmosphere remained heavy with the lingering effects of last night's announcement. I sat at the breakfast table, picking at my aloo paratha (stuffed potato flatbread), my mind still reeling from the reality that Bade Papa would be leaving us soon.

The silence was almost suffocating. Even Manyu, usually chattering away about his dreams or asking endless questions, seemed to sense the mood and ate his breakfast quietly. Maa kept glancing between Papa and Bade Papa, her expression a mixture of sadness and resignation.

"Adhiraj bhai," Papa finally broke the silence, his voice careful and measured. "Have you finalized your departure date?"

Bade Papa looked up from his untouched chai (tea), his eyes meeting Papa's across the table. "Next Thursday, most likely. The flights are already arranged."

Next Thursday. That was barely a week away. My heart clenched at the thought, and I found myself setting down my fork, unable to eat another bite.

"Bade Papa," I said suddenly, the words tumbling out before I could stop them. "Could you... could you please stay a little longer?"

The entire table fell silent, all eyes turning to me. I could feel heat rising in my cheeks, but I pressed on, determined to voice what had been building in my chest since last night.

"I mean," I continued, my voice growing stronger with each word, "my board exam results will be out in two months. Could you please stay until then? Please, Bade Papa. I know it's selfish of me to ask, but... but I want you to be here when I get my results. I want to celebrate with you."

Bade Papa's expression softened immediately, and I could see the internal battle playing out in his eyes. "Mia piccola principessa," he said gently, "you know how much I want to stay, but—"

"Please," I interrupted, my voice breaking slightly. "Please, Bade Papa. Just two more months. I promise I won't ask for anything else after that."

The desperation in my voice must have been evident because I saw Maa reach over to squeeze Papa's hand, her own eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"Beta," Maa said softly, "you know Bade Papa wouldn't leave if he had a choice. His responsibilities in Italy—"

"Can't they wait just a little longer?" I asked, looking directly at Bade Papa. "I know I'm being selfish, but I... I need you here. Just until my results come out. Please."

Bade Papa was quiet for a long moment, his fingers drumming against his coffee cup as he considered my request. I could see Ekansh bhaiya and Mahir bhai exchanging glances, their own expressions conflicted.

"Dad," Ekansh bhaiya said quietly, "maybe we could delay by a few weeks? The situation in Italy is serious, but it's not immediately critical."

Mahir bhai nodded in agreement. "We could handle some of the preliminary work remotely. Video conferences, phone calls. It might be possible to buy some time."
