Neil's POV

When you get the best plot twists at the end

Ever watched any intense scene in a movie, where the hero is nowhere in sight and the world is being destroyed every passing minute? And suddenly – there! The hero arrives – battered but braving all dangers to save the world.

Those few moments where reality sinks in for people that they were saved. That's how the realization sank for us too, that D-Day was finally over.

Maya cheered like a maniac, loud enough for me and Jamie to cover our ears while Dennis celebrated with his team. But even before they were done celebrating, I noticed something.

"Hey," I said. "Where's Obito?"

"Oh, he must be somewhere around here. Or he probably went home." Maya replied, unfazed. While Jamie furrowed his brows.

But soon other things occupied our minds as Dennis and Rin sat back amongst us and we all congratulated them. "We deserve a treat." Maya declared. "So, you both had better buy us triple scoop ice creams and smoothies for sitting in this heat for hours."

Rin blushed.

"Sure!" Dennis grinned. "I could get you an eight-course meal too."

And he winked at me since I was the only one who knew his source of money. (His uncle's credit card).

After the tryouts ended, we hung back to help clear the cones and stuff, depositing them back in the sports storage room.

"So, what did Harsh and all say?" I glanced at Dennis as we five headed back to the main gate via the secondary school building corridors.

"Apparently they too didn't expect Obito to land in the same team as me." Dennis replied, hands in his pockets. "But overall it was fine. We did bicker but managed it in the end. They won't tell how many points they docked us off though."

"Obviously they can't." I snorted. "They can't tell that without the coach's permi-"

My sentence was interrupted by a resounding crash, followed by the tumbling down of objects. A couple of sobs could also be heard.

What could have happened now?

"That classroom!" Maya pointed to the empty classroom in the corner. A couple of other people seemed to have heard the disturbance and we all rushed there, Maya and Dennis in the lead.

When they flung open the door, their faces paled as they stared, shocked.

Inside the room where no lights were turned on, were two people. Shouta, who lay on the ground with a bleeding lip with an upturned table behind him and books and pens scattered all over.

And right in front of him, stood crying-Obito?!

"What the-" One of the guys behind us exclaimed.

"Shut up Vincent!" The other hissed.

Obito's eyes were red and from the stains on his cheeks he had mostly been crying for a while. He covered his mouth with his hands as he stared at Shouta.

And then pushing us all aside, he bolted out of the room.

"The hell..." Vincent muttered.

Jamie was the first to recover. "Are you ok, Shouta?" He stepped forward in concern.

"I am fine." Shouta answered quickly, getting to his feet. Avoiding eye contact.

Maya and Dennis got to picking the papers and pens despite a silent protest from Shouta while Vincent and the other guy straightened the table and set it in its right place.
