The Oberoi Mansion was never quiet—not really. There was always the soft hum of life. Laughter. Conversations. Clinking cups of chai. Someone singing off-key in the distance.
But today… the air was strange.
It started subtly.
Dadi was in her prayer room when she noticed the clock.
“Anirudh’s PA said Nandini’s appointment was at 11,” she murmured, frowning at the time. It was nearly 4 PM.
She picked up the phone and dialed Saisha.
Saisha answered on the first ring. “Dadi—yes?”
“Beta, is Nandini okay? Did she reach home? She didn’t pick up my call.”
A pause.
“Dadi… I had an urgent work. I dropped her at the clinic and she said she’d manage. I thought bhai would bring her home.”
Dadi froze. “But she’s not home.”
On the other end, Saisha’s voice dropped to a whisper. “She didn’t reach?”
“No. Her phone is off.”
Dadi hung up without another word and called Anika next.
Soon, the whole family was looped in.
Anika was pacing. Omkara and Shivaay were on the phones. Rudra, for once, wasn’t joking. Even Gauri stood still, hand clenched around her dupatta.
“No driver picked her up. No guard saw her return,” Rudra said grimly.
“Call Anirudh,” Dadu ordered.
But when they did—
Anirudh didn’t answer.
Because at that very moment—
He was outside his office, staring at the road, lost in thought, unaware that the ground was about to shift beneath his feet.
Finally, Rudra tried again—this time, using his personal number.
Anirudh picked up. “Yes?”
“Bhai, is Bhabhi with you?”
Anirudh’s heart stuttered.
“No,” he said slowly. “She told me not to. I… I respected her space.”
Rudra’s voice turned sharp. “She didn’t come home. She’s not picking up.”
The blood drained from Anirudh’s face.
He didn’t even hang up properly.
He jumped into his car, slammed the door, and peeled off the curb.
His mind was a chaos of possibilities—none of them good.
He called the hospital.
They said she left.
He called every cab service, every guard.
Nothing.
Gone.
Vanished.
And then he felt it.
The rage.
The terror.
