"Have you ever thought about what your S-Force name would be?" Yvonne asked while we had breakfast.
"A little but I am not counting my chickens before they hatch." Jacqueline replied. "I would simply take a name that had been previously used by past members with similar powers."
"No way!" Kylie exclaimed, her eyes going wide. "That is what I plan to do as well."
"Well I am going for something different." I announced. "A lot of them choose Greek or Latin names but I'm going for a name that hasn't been used before."
"Pray tell us what this name is." Yvonne pleaded, a playful smile on her face.
"You'll find out when we officially join the S-Force and become superheroes." I said with a wink.
"I'll hold you to that." Jacqueline vowed.
"Sure." I winked again.
Catherine announced that the next month was going to be a power free month.
"Again?" One of the other boys asked in annoyance. "We've hardly trained with our powers in here. We've mostly trained without powers."
"An astute observation." Catherine said sarcastically. "If you think you were brought here just because of your powers, you are sorely mistaken. I'm training you this way so you depend on what brought you here and not your powers."
"If that will be all..." She began, her lips spreading into a sickly sweet smile. "...let's do some training."
"What do you think brought us to the S-Force if it's not our powers?" Yvonne asked then threw a semi dehydrated carrot stick into her mouth.
"And is it the same thing for all of us?" Kylie said, obviously thinking aloud.
"Doubt it." Jacqueline shook her head. "Take us for example. We're vastly different. Yvonne and Toni don't shy away from the spotlight. I don't mind the spotlight but I don't actively go seeking it out. And Kylie does all she can to avoid it."
I raised an eyebrow. "Did you just call Yvonne and I attention seeking?"
"Well if the shoe fits." She shrugged.
"I hope an asteroid crushes your head." I said, a little too aggressively.
"So we were selected for different reasons." Kylie quickly spoke up when Jacqueline opened her mouth to reply. "Anybody have any idea why?"
"Well you see..." Yvonne stood up and stroke a pose like a rebel revolutionary about to give a speech addressing followers of his cause. "... it probably has something to do with the day we got recruited."
"Elaborate?" I asked, eyebrow raised in slight confusion.
"There were qualities they were looking for already which we happened to possessed. Could be the fact that our abilities were unique or that they had edge over those with similar powers or could be our strategic abilities."
"You have a point." Kylie raised an eyebrow.
"Well." Yvonne puffed her chest.
Jacqueline poked her chest, making her yelp. "OK Miss Spotlight. You are probably right but you should sit down as well."
"You're just jealous." Yvonne huffed as she reluctantly sat down.
"Jealous of how ridiculous you look? Oh I'm sure." Jacqueline chuckled.
"Psh!" Yvonne waved Jacqueline aside.
I felt eyes on me suddenly and I looked up to see Winifred staring at me intensely. Heat crawled up my body and I felt my heartbeat quicken. I could not wait to be rid of her.
