37: Yvonne

Everyone was nervous but no one was as nervous as I was. I had been working overtime on my hand to hand combat skills but I was not completely sure it was enough. The next test was fast approaching and I needed to be ready for it.

"Alright Yvonne try again." Kylie gently placed a hand on my shoulder.

I grabbed it and dragged her to my front, quickly putting her into a headlock. She tried to snake out an arm and grab my neck but I quickly twisted it and brought it behind her. She slipped out of my hold and tried to flip me. Unfortunately for her, I was quicker. I grabbed the back of her shoulders and flipped her. She landed on her back with a thud.

She gasped for air for a few seconds and stood up. "Fuck I was slow."

"Yeah I think we need to work on our speed." Toni observed.

"We have quite a long way to go." Jacqueline groaned.

"That's true but we gotta stay positive." I pleaded with them.

"Positive thinking is great Yvonne but it's not going to have us ready in time." Jacqueline rolled her eyes.

"I think it will." I countered. "If we don't think positive, everything will seem harder than it is and we won't get things done in time."

Jacqueline blew out a breath. "Let's just keep training."

We fared better compared to most of the other trainees during Catherine's training. And she made us know.

"Some of you show exceptional skill while the rest of you need to work a lot harder." She announced in the middle of training.

"Some of you, although exceptional, need to work on recovering quickly." She continued. "During an actual battle, there is no rest or recovery time. You get up immediately you're down or else the enemy will finish you off."

She stopped in front of a girl with cropped hair. "Do I make myself clear?" She yelled.

"Yes Ms. Catherine." We all yelled.

"Now disappear all of you." She said in a low but threatening voice.

We didn't need to be told twice.

"Trainer Catherine seems frustrated." I said as I cut into the little piece of steak we were given for lunch.

"She probably doesn't think we're ready for the next test yet." Kylie said before shoving the entire piece of steak into her mouth.

"Which confirms our suspicions about this next test being much harder than the last one." Jacqueline said then pursed her lips in contemplation.

"It's not looking good guys." She decided.

We snuck past Dae-woo once again and got into the training room about two hours before lights out. We all got into position, ready to train.

"Alright let's make today count." Jacqueline said as she got into position, looking between Toni and Kylie, trying to decide who she should challenge.

Some movement in a corner caught my attention. A strange figure stepped out of a corner and approached Jacqueline. An android.

"Jacky look out." I yelled.

The android raised its arms and brought it down to strike Jacqueline. Without missing a beat, Jacqueline brought her hands up and let out an ice shield. The android's hands made a crack in the ice but Jacqueline countered it quickly by generating a new layer of ice.

"It has swords for hands guys." Kylie whuspered in shock.

"Quick let's help her." Toni was already speeding up to Jacqueline.

I blew a gust of wind towards the android, managing to push it back a little. Toni had grabbed Jacqueline and sped off with her. Kylie used her telekinesis to suspend it in the air.

"Guys this android is unusually heavy for my telekinesis." Kylie said, eyes wide.

"How long can you hold her up?" I asked her.

"A couple of minutes." Kylie said then took a deep breath.

"That should be enough time." Toni sped back up to us.

"Conserve some of your powers. Let's try merging our powers." I suggested.

"I don't think it's a good idea." Kylie said nervously.

"It's better than getting beheaded." I said exasperatedly.

"It's worth a shot." Toni agreed.

Kylie threw the android to the ground. Toni began to spin herself into a cyclone so she could open a portal.

"That's enough!" A voice yelled.
