"So here's what will happen. We are not portaling into my house. We are going to teleport in a dark corner of the driveway. That way my parents don't flare up and nosy neighbours don't see us." I instructed.
"Ohboyohboyohboyohboy." Yvonne bounced on her heels. I shook my head at her. Her excitement will soon be ruined.
"Ready?" I asked the girls.
"Ready!" They chorused.
I spun myself into a cyclone and generated a portal. Yvonne raised up a mini cyclone and collided it with my portal. Jacqueline and Kylie went in at the same time, Yvonne followed and I entered last.
I usually felt a feeling of exhilaration whenever I was in a portal I made. But this time I felt sick to my stomach. Today was the day I was going to tell my parents that I had been accepted into the S-Force and I knew how they would react. Unimpressed until I officially became a member. I signalled to Kylie to ready her telekinesis and I closed up the portal. We landed weightlessly in my family's garage and I wasted no time in standing up to examine my surroundings. I noticed my Vespa which I had bought with my own money saved from cash gifts relatives was not only uncovered, there was a sticker from my brother's room on its front.
"They didn't." I seethed.
I marched out of the garage and to the front door, the others following behind me. I knocked on the door as hard as I could.
"Who is it?" I heard my mother's voice.
"It's Antonia." I called out.
There was silence for a long moment until some shuffling was heard and then some footsteps. The door opened to reveal my mother, looking every bit of annoyed.
"Let me guess." She sighed. "You failed training at that facility of yours?"
"On the contrary. I got selected for the S-Force eight months ago."
"Well good luck with that." She said, clearly uninterested.
"Yeah. So... can I come in?"
"Sure..." my mother stepped outside for me to enter. "You brought friends. That's new."
I ignored her comment and went up to my room, the girls following behind me. Luckily, it hadn't been touched. It hadn't obviously been cleaned since the beginning.
"I got it." Yvonne said to me. "Open the windows, especially the largest ones." I did as she said and stepped aside. She generated a mini cyclone that raised up the dust and pushed it out the window.
"Thanks." I said.
"Anytime."
"Well girls, welcome to my humble abode."
"Thanks for having us Toni." Kylie smiled warmly at me.
"You've got a nice place." Jacqueline complimented me.
There was silence for a minute until Yvonne cleared her throat.
"Quick question." She said slowly as if asking me for permission to speak.
"Shoot!" I responded.
"Are your parents just finding out you got recruited for the S-Force?" She looked genuinely puzzled
"Well yeah."
"What? Why?" All three girls blurted out at the same time.
"Other than the fact that they wouldn't care? I don't know. My mother's non reaction to the news should be enough evidence."
"Do they have something against the S-Force?" Yvonne asked, curiosity all over her face and voice.
"No they just have something against me." I said bitterly.
"Why?"
"I don't know but for some reason nothing I did impressed my family."
"I'm sorry." Jacqueline said.
"Me too." Yvonne stood from her place on my bed and walked over to wrap an arm around me in a gesture of comfort.
"Thanks guys." I said, genuinely thankful.
"You don't have to thank us." Kylie said in a quiet voice. "We're here for you."
"Awwww." Yvonne pulled Kylie up and brought her into a group hug.
"Hey what about me?" Jacqueline pouted.
"Be waiting for invitation." Yvonne stuck out a tongue at her.
Jacqueline stood up and joined in the hug.
"How about I show you around the neighborhood? I doubt my mum would have anything for you guys so we'll have to fend for ourselves. We'll make an adventure of it."
Sure enough, my mum told me whatever was in the kitchen was for my little brother so I should find something in town for them to snack on. I expected it but the girls were positively scandalised at my mother's words. At least now they knew what I usually go through and they could finally understand why I avoided coming home.
