"It's so early." I mumbled to myself. I was one hundred percent sure that the sun wasn't even out yet and it wasn't going to be for hours to come.
"Another test." Jacqueline dragged her hands against her face, fighting sleep.
"Has to be." Kylie supported Jacqueline's theory.
"Hopefully we're prepared." Toni said silently.
"We'll get through this. Whatever it is." Kylie rolled her shoulders.
Catherine called a list of names and they all went up, including Kylie and Toni.
"Good luck guys." I called out as they left.
I immediately settled in a corner and began to stretch. Jacqueline sat beside me and began stretching as well.
"It'll be fine." Jacqueline reassured me.
"I know but I can't help but feel nervous."
"And that's ok." She shrugged, a faraway look in her eyes.
"What do you do when you get nervous?" I asked her.
"Pardon?" She said, obvious that I had interrupted her thoughts.
"How do you deal with nervousness?"
"I simply remind myself what is at stake. If I don't make it, I'll end up on the streets eventually.
"Oh!" I said.
"So I'm going to do more than my best so that I make it into the S-Force."
"Period."
She seized my arm and brought me close to her. "Keep this between us. Don't tell a soul what I told you."
I breathed in nervously, feeling her hand squeezing my arm tighter and tighter. "You have my word." I squeaked.
"Good." She said then released my arm.
"You can be scary sometimes, you know that?" I rubbed my arm.
"Comes with the territory." Jacqueline shrugged.
"Yeah try using it on Dae-woo and not me."
"Thanks for the suggestion." She bumped her fist against my slightly sore am, making me wince.
"Anytime." I winked at her, ignoring the way my arm throbbed.
Catherine came back and called out another list of names, including mine and I got up to follow her and the others after doing one more stretch.
We took a shuttle that went up. We stopped at a hallway and we were ushered out by Catherine who led us to a large door that slid open when we appeared. We went in and the doors slid shut behind us.
"Two rules. You are allowed to push through with using your powers or you can use your strength as well as your environment. Good luck." Catherine's voice could be heard in the room.
"Vivekananda Bose step into the inner chamber." A voice ordered as a panel opened up before us. A lanky boy stepped forward and walked through the panel which closed up behind him.
More names were called forward until it was my turn. When I walked through the panel, a dull light was turned so I could see my surroundings. The room was sterile except for what looked like panels that obviously hid things.
"Don't forget you are free to use your powers or your environment to your advantage for as long as possible." The voice from earlier remind me.
"Understood." I replied.
"Alright then. Let's begin."
The dull light went off and I felt a large amount of liquid get dumped on me. A bright light was turned on suddenly, blinding me for a minute. The liquid I was drenched in and the bright lights left me disoriented for a second. When I got my bearings, I looked to see what had been poured on me. Streaks of white were all over my hands. I felt my throat begin to close up at that moment.
"Raw milk!" I gasped out.
Wasting no time, I blew a blast of air around me, blowing out some of the milk on and around me. A burning building appeared in front of me and I blew some air on it to blow out the flames. I noticed movement behind me and quickly turned around. Three cloaked entities were approaching me and they were coming in fast. I quickly generated a cyclone and sent it forward in their direction. It swallowed them then sent them flying. I was suddenly grabbed from behind and the dark figures from a moment ago returned immediately and began to close in on me. I head-butted the figure that had grabbed me and rammed my shoulder into its chest, causing it to stumble. I brought up a large wall of wind around me and pushed it up to the dark figures before me. I was losing air but I refused to give up. I wondered where they got an actual vat of milk and at the same time, I had my eye on the prize. I was fighting for my spot on the S-Force. No vat of milk was going to come between me and my goal.
With the last of my breath, I blasted a strong gust of wind in both directions, sending the cloaked creatures flying against the wall and landing with a loud thud. I collapsed to the floor on my hands and knees, trying to catch my breath. I noticed a dark figure walking towards me, ready to attack.
"You're back for more already?" I chuckled.
It said nothing but stood before me. I quickly grabbed it's ankles and pulled with all my might. The creature fell down and I hurriedly pinned it down with my elbow on its back.
Suddenly everything disappeared. The burning building, the dark entities, even the room seemed smaller than before. I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath.
