We were meeting our initial target for our secret training. There was some improvement in our stamina and endurance. Even Catherine noticed.
"Like we're actually doing great." Kylie excitedly said while we played Ludo. "Whenever or whatever the next test is, we could like actually make it."
"Don't get too confident now." Jacqueline bumped Kylie's shoulder. "Last test was hard. This one is going to be much harder for sure."
Kylie made a face at Jacqueline. "Rain anymore on my parade and it's going to be a literal flood."
"Just giving you a dose of reality." Jacqueline shrugged.
"I win!" I threw my hands up victoriously.
We secretly met in the training room thirty minutes later.
"So far Yvonne can turn Jacky's powers back on her. Toni can outrun everyone's powers and I can suspend all of you and destabilise your powers except for Toni." Kylie gave a rundown of what we had done so far with practising how to turn people's powers back on them.
"If we figure out how to use our powers in other different ways too..." I thought aloud.
"Well we have merged our powers before." Toni pointed out.
"But we haven't merged with Kylie's or Jacky's powers." I reminded her.
"We should definitely try that soon." Jacqueline suggested.
"We'll need a lot of open space for that." Toni said. "Any of you guys got some open space at home?"
"Well my aunt owns a farm with a couple of people." Kylie said like it was no big deal.
"Will she be OK with us turning her farm into a training field?"
"Harvest season is over around this time so it's fine for us to use it."
"Then it's settled. Next visit we're going to see your aunt."
Kylie gulped. "Yup!" She said in a strained voice.
I sidled up to Kylie after training the following day. "You scared of seeing your aunt?"
"It's not that it's just — I had made a promise to myself to only see her after all this which was either when I made it to the S-Force or if I got cut from the running."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
"You know you don't have to if you don't want to." I assured her.
"This could guarantee my spot in the S-Force." Kylie fixed me with a serious look. "I want to and I have to. Besides I need to make sure she knows I'm OK."
"Alright." I said warmly.
"Isn't that your brother?" Kylie asked out of nowhere.
"Huh?"
"He just came off that shuttle."
Sure enough there was Selim getting off the shuttle ahead of us. A man who was quite older than Selim walked a little ahead of him. I opened my mouth to say something to get his as he passed by us but he mouthed "We'll talk later" to me and gave Kylie and me a brief nod of acknowledgement as he walked away.
"I wonder what he is doing here." I pondered as we got on the shuttle.
"What does he do?" Kylie asked.
"He's a soil scientist."
"Maybe he has a meeting about soil science stuff with someone in here."
"Maybe but who is he meeting?"
"Must be Catherine."
"What part of soil science would interest her?"
"Dunno. We saw him on Catherine's floor so that's the only explanation I got."
"Yeah you're right. Just confused as to why Catherine would want to meet him."
"You'll find out when you see him later."
"But I'm impatient." I whined.
"Aren't you hungry?" Kylie reminded me.
As if on cue, my stomach growled. I smiled sheepishly, feeling my face heat up.
"I'll pass the time and eat but after that I'm going to grill him."
