Chapter 26

Y/n's POV

As we left the Liberator's chamber, Tio took her dragon form as the three of us climbed onto her back. "To the capital as fast as you can, Tio," Papa said. 

"Of course, master." Tio said, taking off. Tio flew forward towards the capital as I pulled what papa called binoculars out of my storage ring. "When we get closer to the capital, let me know what it looks like with those." Papa said.

"Got it. Although I doubt many people will be alive." I said.

"That's fine. Focus on finding Yue and the others." Papa said. I nodded as we started getting closer to the capital. I looked through the binoculars, spotting the monsters gathering near a giant colosseum. "Papa. There are lights on in the Colosseum and the monsters are gathering around the arena." I explained. Papa nodded before ordering Tio to fly towards the colosseum. Tio landed out on the roof before we headed inside towards where people were gathering. "Y/n. You're free to act. No restrictions." Papa said.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

"Save those we can, but if anyone gets in your way or tries to stop you. Put them down." Papa ordered. I nodded as we continued running towards the sounds of voices. We entered the area before papa took a step forward. "Hey kids. Sorry I'm late to the party." Papa said. I looked around the arena, seeing a guy with a sword through Kaori's chest. I used Quick Step to get over to Kaori as I punched the guy into the wall behind him. "You hurt Kaori. You're going to pay." I said, strolling towards the guy. I heard a sword clatter against the ground as I stepped towards the guy. "Tio, miss Aiko." Papa said. I heard Tio and Aiko casting a spell as I grabbed the man by his shirt. "You..." The guy said, recognizing me. I heard papa's Metzelei charge up before firing as I pulled the man to my level. "Let's see how you survive this." I said, shoving a sword through the guy's chest. He screamed in pain as I pushed it deeper into his chest. I dropped him to the ground as I walked away. "How'd it go for you?" I asked, walking over to papa.

"Good, so far. Go let the others out of their cuffs." Papa said. I nodded and walked over to the others and started undoing their cuffs. "So?" Papa asked. I looked over, seeing him aiming a guy as the girl that was casting a spell near Kaori. "Why you..." She complained.

"I don't want to hear why you did this. I don't care. In fact, I don't give a good goddamn about you at all. You've done all the damage you're going to, now die." Papa said. He started pulling the trigger as the guy I had stabbed fired a spell towards him. "Nagumo!" The guy shouted. He swung towards papa with a sword only for papa to put his face into the ground. "Shut up. Y/n, looks like you forgot to confirm his death." Papa said.

"Sorry." I apologized. Papa shrugged as the guy started talking with short breaths. "Screw you. Cause if it wasn't for you. Kaori... She would... she would be mine. This whole thing is your fault." The guy complained.

"Weak people blame others. Might as well take credit for what you've done, but you don't take responsibility for anything. You're a waste of time." Papa said.

"You'll see... I'll kill you. If it's the last thing I do." The guy said.

"I highly doubt that. Have fun out there," Papa said, kicking the guy out of the arena. I felt mana coming down from the sky as I rushed over, firing my rifle into the air, stopping the attack. A portal opened behind us as I looked up, seeing Freid, who tried to kill papa and me in the volcano. "We did it, master. We were able to attach her spirit, but to do anything beyond that, we'll need time. I'd like Yue's help if possible. This won't hold forever." Tio explained. The dragon landed on the colosseum as the demon spoke up. "Surrender. Don't you value the lives of your comrades? For outside these walls, we're 100,000 strong, with a million more on the way. No matter how formidable you and that girl might be, you can't continue fighting and protecting everyone at the same time." Freid said.

Papa pulled a new item out of his storage that I hadn't seen before, which looked like a mana crystal. He poured mana into it before a red beam came from the sky, traveling around the arena, killing the monsters outside. I turned towards Freid as I aimed and fired a shot at him. The shot grazed his cheek as I looked up at him. "We never claimed to be friends of the kingdom. Same goes for everyone here. If you wanna play war, then go ahead. If you're smart, you'll stay out of our way, otherwise I'll vaporize you all. So beat it." Papa said.

"How dare you! I will have my vengeance. Filthy heathens! In the name of my god I will destroy you once and for all!" Freid declared. I fired another shot at him, missing on purpose this time. "You heard papa. Leave." I ordered. Freid looked towards the girl before teleporting her to him as they flew through a portal to leave. Mama and Shea came over the walls landing behind papa. "Hi, we made it. Where's the ugly fool?" Mama asked.

"Yeah, tell us. Where's that piece of trash?" Shea asked. They looked over, seeing Kaori hurt while Tio and Aiko were using magic to save her. "What happened?" Shea asked.

"Nagumo? Kaori is... Let me... Let me help." The girl said, falling to her knees.

"Shea, take care of Kaori." Papa said. Shea rushed over to help Kaori. "Tio, guide Yue and the others. Miss Aiko, I need your help too." Papa said. The four of them carried Kaori towards the mountain while papa and I stayed behind. Papa crouched down in front of the girl, who asked to help before having her look at him. "Yaegashi. Stay strong, just wait here, okay? Have faith in us. I give you my word you will see Kaori again." Papa promised.

"Nagumo." Yaegashi said.

"Come on, snap out of it. If you don't, then who's going to clean up my messes from now on?" Papa asked.

"You promise? I can trust you?" Yaegashi asked. Papa nodded before patting my head. "Y/n, stay here and help them however you can." Papa said, turning to leave.

"Will do!" I said, waving as he left.
