Chapter 74

"She still hasn't woken up," Lilia enters the infirmary to check on the Ramshackle fox.

"Unfortunately not," Shibishu sighs as he finishes writing out the last results of the fox's check up. The fox has been unconscious for about the past 24 hours, only having Lilia and Sebek as visitors. "I do believe that she is going to wake up in the next hour or two. The lastest magic tests I ran have come back with promising results, she definitely has magic."

"That's good," Lilia hums. "I've been in communication with the council in Briar Valley to get official documentation but they are quite troublesome."

"I think it would be easier for Leona to get her official documentation," Shibishu comments.

"Probably, but Malleus wants her to be able to be in the castle with him," Lilia chuckles. "Not many people can say no to him."

"Oh," Shibishu raises as eyebrow. "But you can... General?"

"Only when absolutely necessary," Lilia frowns. "You're not supposed to call me by that title."

"My apologies," Shibishu waves off Lilia. "Just because you are able to fool the students, doesn't mean you can fool the staff."

"I don't know what you are talking about," Lilia huffs. "I am nothing more than a student."

"Sure," Shibishu scoffs, trying to hide his grin. "And my parents were both human." Lilia leaves the infirmary to go to his next class. Shibishu lets out a sigh, thinking about how Lilia can't keep his secret forever.

Shibishu thinks back to when Lilia brought up the Sundrop Flower to himself and his colleague Crewel. At first he had thought it was extremely dangerous and an unnecessary idea. The poor fox had already been through enough and her body didn't need anymore stress placed on it. Going from non-magic to magic takes a hefty toll on the body and mind, and Shibishu had seen how magic can reject a body the was magic less to begin with. He hoped that the same wretched fate that his belated friend had.

If Y/n survives, Shibishu will officially adopt her. Caddie, his wife, had already agreed to the arrangement when he brought it up to her. For now, he is just going to watch over the fox, waiting for her to wake up.

⦓Ramshackle Dorm- Lounge⦔

The SDC competitors were in the lounge of the dorm. Vil had ordered everyone to gather before heading up to their room to unpack their luggage.

"So, Vil," Kalim is the first to speak. "What did you want to talk about?"

Vil crosses his arms across his chest, "I want all of you to open your luggage and show it to me."

"Wait, what," Ace questions, not really paying attention. "Shouldn't we wait until we get to out rooms to unpack?"

"Just do as I say." Vil opens Ace and Deuce's luggage first, unimpressed with what he sees. "...I knew it. Spudlings One and Two—would you care to explain these stashes of junk food and carbonated beverages? I see cookies, sugary candy, and chocolate bars."

"Sometimes I need a midnight snack," Deuce admits.

"Since we're staying together for training camp, I thought it'd be nice to share some with Y/n and the others."

"And Kalim—containers of food comprise over half your luggage!" Vil was in disbelief while looking through Kalim's luggage.

"Yep!" Kalim smiles brightly and points out some of the containers. "These are fried dough balls and a pastry called Kanafeh. I had Jamil make them for me. They go great with nuts, cheese, and cream on top. I was going to share them with the group!"
