You're sitting on the couch, curled up in Peter's arms, his warm breath tickling your neck as he nuzzles against you. It's a rare quiet moment for the two of you, where the world feels small and intimate, just you, Peter, and little Ben playing quietly on his colorful play mat in front of the couch.
Peter shifts slightly, pressing soft kisses along your jawline, making you smile as you close your eyes and relax against him. It's been a long week of balancing parenthood, work, and Peter's late-night patrols as Spider-Man, but moments like this, moments where you can be close and just exist together, make it all worth it.
You run your fingers through Peter's curly hair, tugging lightly as you tease, "You're in a good mood today."
Peter hums against your skin, "How could I not be when I've got my girl right here?"
You chuckle softly, but your attention is briefly drawn to Ben, sitting on the mat, gnawing on one of his soft toys. He's so close to walking, always trying to stand up while holding something, and every day you wait for that moment when he finally takes off across the room. For now, though, he's content making baby noises, babbling his favorite word on repeat.
"Mama...mummm...mummm," Ben mumbles, his little voice filling the living room as he continues to chew on his toy.
Peter groans softly, rolling his eyes but not pulling away from you. "Of course. Mama again. It's always mama."
You bite back a laugh, pressing a quick kiss to Peter's lips before you give him a sympathetic look. "Babe, you can't force him to say dada. He'll say it when he's ready."
"He's ready now," Peter mutters, his eyes narrowing playfully as he looks at Ben. "Come on, little man. Say Dada. It's not that hard. Da-da. Dada's right here."
Ben looks up at Peter, his big brown eyes wide and curious, as if he knows his dad is talking to him. But instead of saying what Peter wants, Ben gives him a drooly smile and says, "Mummm."
You burst out laughing, covering your mouth as you try to contain it, but Peter shoots you a betrayed look.
"I swear he's doing it on purpose," Peter says, though there's no real frustration in his voice, just playful exasperation. "He's mocking me, isn't he?"
You snuggle closer to Peter, your head resting against his shoulder. "He loves his mama. You can't blame him for that."
Peter shakes his head, though you can see the fond smile pulling at his lips. "I get it. You're amazing. But he is my son too. I just want to hear him say it once. Dada. That's all I'm asking."
"You'll get it," you reassure him, tracing your fingers over his chest. "Patience, Spidey."
He huffs dramatically, resting his head back against the couch. "I'm not the most patient person, you know that."
You laugh softly, leaning in to kiss his cheek. "I've noticed."
Ben continues to babble happily on the floor, still saying variations of mama as he plays with his toys. Peter watches him with a sigh, his fingers idly playing with the hem of your shirt. He glances at you with a mischievous grin, clearly having an idea.
"Maybe he needs a little motivation," Peter says, his voice low as he starts peppering kisses along your neck, moving up to your jaw. "Maybe if I make mama really happy, Ben will want to say dada."
You laugh, swatting at him half-heartedly. "You think kissing me is going to make him say dada?"
"It's worth a shot," Peter murmurs, his lips trailing up to yours.
You melt into the kiss, your arms wrapping around his neck as the world fades away for a moment, leaving only the two of you in your little bubble of love and warmth. Peter's hand slips under your shirt, his touch gentle and familiar, and you smile into the kiss, feeling a spark of happiness.
You're so wrapped up in each other that you don't notice Ben has stopped babbling, his little eyes focused on the two of you. He pushes up on his hands and knees, rocking back and forth for a moment before he slowly begins to crawl toward the couch.
"Hmm, I think someone's getting jealous," you murmur against Peter's lips, pulling back slightly to glance down at Ben.
Peter looks down too, his eyebrows raising in surprise as he sees Ben making his way over to you. "Look at him go. He's really moving this time."
You both watch in amazement as Ben crawls determinedly toward Peter's leg, his little face scrunched up in concentration. He reaches Peter's knee, using it as leverage to pull himself up to a standing position, his tiny hands clutching Peter's sweatpants.
And then, with all the confidence of a baby on a mission, Ben looks up at Peter with wide, innocent eyes and says, clear as day, "Dada."
The word hangs in the air for a moment, and you and Peter both freeze, staring at each other in disbelief.
"Did...did he just-" Peter starts, his voice a mix of shock and excitement.
"Yeah," you breathe, your heart swelling with joy as you watch Ben reach up toward Peter, his little hands grasping for his dad. "He said it."
Peter's face breaks into the biggest grin you've ever seen, his eyes lighting up with pure happiness. He scoops Ben up into his arms, holding him close as he laughs, his voice thick with emotion. "That's right! Dada! You said dada!"
Ben giggles, clearly pleased with himself, and says it again. "Dada!"
You can't help but smile, feeling a warm sense of pride and love as you watch the two of them together. Peter holds Ben up, bouncing him slightly as he keeps repeating the word, almost like he's savoring the sound of it.
"Dada! Did you hear that, Y/n? Dada! He finally said it!"
You laugh, leaning against the back of the couch as you watch the scene unfold, your heart full. "I heard it, babe. Took him long enough."
Peter sits back down on the couch, still holding Ben in his arms, and presses a kiss to his son's forehead. "You've made your old man the happiest guy in the world, buddy. Best day ever."
Ben wiggles in Peter's lap, clearly enjoying the attention, and says it again, just for good measure. "Dada."
Peter looks at you, his grin wide and playful. "I told you he'd say it. You just had to have a little faith."
You roll your eyes, though you're still smiling as you lean in to kiss Peter's cheek. "I never doubted you. But I have to admit, hearing him say it is pretty adorable."
Peter pulls you closer with his free arm, holding you against his side as he keeps Ben balanced on his lap. "Adorable, huh? You know what's even more adorable?"
"What?"
He kisses the top of your head, his voice soft and full of love as he murmurs, "This. Us. Our little family."
Your heart swells with emotion, and you snuggle into his side, feeling like the luckiest person in the world. Ben babbles happily in Peter's lap, his little hands reaching for Peter's face as he continues to say, "Dada."
And as you sit there, wrapped in Peter's arms with your baby boy happily repeating his new favorite word, you realize that this-this simple, beautiful moment-is everything you've ever wanted.
