You had been looking forward to today all week. It had been forever since you and your friends had a proper get-together, and now, finally, the plan was happening. MJ, Betty, Gwen, and Cindy were all coming over for a chill night at your and Peter’s place—snacks, gossip, and pure relaxation.
Peter, however, had been on a completely different mission. He had been glued to his gaming room all day, laser-focused on beating some impossibly difficult level of a game he had been raging about for weeks. You had honestly lost track of what the game was even called; all you knew was that it had taken over your boyfriend’s life.
Not that you minded. Peter was adorable when he got this into something. His passion was one of the many reasons you loved him.
The doorbell rang, pulling you from your thoughts.
“They’re here!” You cheered to yourself, quickly making your way to the door.
“Peter!” You called out as you passed by his gaming room. “The girls are here!”
No response. Just the sound of clicking buttons and Peter mumbling something under his breath.
You rolled your eyes but smiled. Of course, he didn’t hear you. He was probably deep in the game, muscles tense, brows furrowed in determination, completely oblivious to the world around him.
Shrugging it off, you opened the door to find your friends standing there, each one holding a different kind of snack or drink.
“You guys are lifesavers,” you said, pulling them all in for a hug.
“We bring only the best,” MJ smirked, holding up a pack of cookies.
“Ready for some serious gossip?” Gwen asked, stepping inside.
“Absolutely,” you grinned, leading them to the living room.
Everyone settled in comfortably, spreading snacks across the coffee table as you all started chatting. It didn’t take long before the room was filled with laughter, stories, and the occasional dramatic gasp at someone’s latest tea.
It was perfect—exactly the kind of night you had needed.
About thirty minutes into the conversation, just as Cindy was mid-story about a coworker’s office drama, Peter’s gaming room door suddenly swung open.
He came out practically bouncing on his feet, eyes shining with excitement, completely unaware of the company in the room.
“Babe! I won! I finally did it! It was—”
Peter stopped dead in his tracks, his excitement freezing as his gaze landed on the five pairs of eyes now staring at him.
His face fell, his cheeks instantly turning a deep shade of red.
“Um… hey, guys,” he said, his voice a little higher than usual as he awkwardly lifted his hand in a small wave.
“Hi,” MJ said, smirking.
“Hey,” Betty greeted, clearly holding back a laugh.
“Hey, Peter,” Gwen added, grinning.
Peter glanced at you, eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights.
“I’m gonna, uh… I’m gonna go.”
Then, before anyone could say another word, he spun on his heel and bolted back into his gaming room, shutting the door behind him in record time.
There was a beat of silence before the entire room burst into laughter.
“Oh my god,” MJ wheezed. “He was so excited, like a literal child.”
“You sure you’re not dating a kid, Y/N?” Gwen teased, nudging you with her elbow.
You groaned, though you couldn’t help but smile. “Oh, come on, you guys. He’s been trying to pass that level for a long time. Let him live a little.”
“Hey, we’re just teasing,” Cindy said, still giggling.
“It’s actually really sweet,” Betty said, her voice softer. “That he can be that vulnerable and kiddy around you.”
“Yeah, yeah,” you muttered, standing up. “I better check on him. Make sure he didn’t pass out from embarrassment.”
More laughter followed you as you walked to the gaming room. You knocked lightly before slipping inside and shutting the door behind you.
Peter was sitting at his desk, slumped forward, his forehead resting on the edge of his keyboard. He groaned dramatically at the sound of you entering.
“Oh my god, babe! That was so embarrassing.”
You walked over, placing a comforting hand on his back. “Hey, it’s okay. You know they’re chill.”
“I know, I know,” he mumbled into the desk. “But, like, I didn’t even see them. I just ran out here, screaming like a maniac.”
You giggled, rubbing circles on his back. “You were cute.”
He turned his head slightly to look at you, giving you a playful glare. “Don’t patronize me.”
“I’m not! It was cute! You were just so happy.”
He groaned again, burying his face in his arms. “I’m never leaving this room again.”
You rolled your eyes, leaning down to kiss the back of his neck. “Oh, please. You’ll be out in ten minutes when you get hungry.”
“…Damn it,” he muttered, making you laugh.
He finally sat up, still looking a little embarrassed but definitely less mortified. “They were really laughing, huh?”
You grinned. “Oh, yeah. MJ was losing it. Gwen asked if I was sure I wasn’t dating a child.”
Peter groaned again, dramatically leaning back in his chair. “I am a child.”
You poked his cheek. “But you’re my child.”
He pouted at you before breaking into a smile. “That makes it sound worse, Y/N.”
You laughed, pressing a kiss to his lips. “Come on, gamer boy. Come eat snacks with us.”
He sighed, stretching his arms. “Fine. But if they make fun of me, I’m taking all the chips.”
You smirked. “They will make fun of you.”
He groaned one last time for dramatic effect before standing up and following you back to the living room. Sure enough, as soon as he stepped out, the teasing began all over again—but this time, he took it like a champ, plopping down next to you and stealing a handful of chips like he had planned all along.
And honestly? You wouldn’t have had it any other way.
