After everyone was safely off the roof, we made a mad dash for my truck and piled inside. Melissa got into the driver's seat; since she had the key, while Steven got into the passenger's seat; much to Johnny's dismay.

"Now let's get the hell out of here and get to Charlotte's Ville before he decides to release more crawlers." I ordered as Mel started the engine.

She nodded then threw the Dodge into reverse and booked it out of the driveway.

"Which direction were we headed in?" She asked once we were in the road.

"Go left." Steven said calmly. "Right will take us back to the store."

"Right." She said nervously as she put the vehicle in drive and turned towards the left. "Maybe we should update Andie on what happened."

"Not right now...I just want to get out of here." I said as I looked down at the sleeping babies against my chest. "We can wait til we get there."

"If we ever make it there." Johnny said as he looked out the window. "Its already pretty late."

"How long were we in the house?" Mel asked, as if anyone had timed it.

"Too fucking long." I sighed. "We shouldn't have went there in the first place."

"True, we really didn't learn anything that we didn't already." John agreed. "Besides the fact that The Director's name is Mal."

"We have Ally's journal...that might help you understand her and the situation a little bit better." Steven suggested. "She wrote everything in it."

"True, maybe we should find somewhere to rest for the night...we've had a long stressful day." Melissa suggested as she slowed down to barely a crawl. "Looks like the Crawler farms are empty."

"The fields might be, but the houses aren't...trust me, someone had to give the order and it couldn't be done from another location...Lavender tried." Steve said as he readjusted in his seat. "They're dumber than a box of pet rocks and too violent for him to implant his microchip microphone in their heads...like he did to Andie."

"Wait, what?" I asked confused.

"He told me that when he was telling me what he did to her in the lab." He answered briefly. "Melissa head to the edge of town, there should be a safe place there."

"Okay." Mel said before she slowly increased the speed. "But what if there's not?"

"Then we'll have to drive all night." I said softly. "Either we get some rest or we make it to the bunkers exhausted."

"You can't be serious Sarge." Johnny protested. "That's at least a day or two worth of driving away...we're not even close to the city limits yet."

"There are at least three people in this truck who can drive, so I think we'll the fine." I defended. "Besides I don't hear you coming up with another solution."

"What about gas?" His sister asked worried. "We'll  run out again and I don't see any stations we can siphon from."

"John Boy is the internet still working?"

"Yeah, but it kinda glitchy right now, because I keep losing signal." He said as he held up his phone.

I allowed phone's only when we needed them, other then that they had to stay off. Do to safety concerns.

"As soon as you can, look for a gas station near us." I ordered with a sigh.

"I knew I should have put in for the upgrade when it became available."

I couldn't trust myself anymore...my own thoughts had been corrupted and there was nothing I could do about it. He won...he got what he wanted all along...he finally got me where he wanted me...under his control.
