“Shit” I cried loudly

I’d landed at the bottom of the steps in a heap, and in a lot of pain. I eventually pulled myself into a sitting position on the snowy path and tried to compose myself. I was breathing rapidly and pretty shook up. Lou-Lou walked gingerly down the steps and came and sat by my side.

After a few minutes of sitting in the snow I decided I needed to try and stand, It wasn’t safe to hang around in this park after midnight. I reached my hand above me to the metal railings and pulled myself up with my right arm. My left arm was throbbing, I’d hit my shoulder hard on the way down and couldn’t move it. As soon as my feet touched the floor I felt a sharp pain in my left ankle and immediately had to take my weight from it. I’d most likely twisted it. I couldn’t dwell on my injuries though, I had to get home.

I wiped the snowy mud from the side of my face and picked Lou-Lou lead back up, and threaded it through my belt buckle.

“Come on Boy” I told him.

We started to make our slow and painful walk home with the help of railings and peoples fences as I clung to them for support. We finally made our way back to the house and I sighed with relief.

I opened the door and unclipped Lou-Lou’s lead letting him run in to the kitchen and have a drink of water.

I let out a whimper as I tried to take Kimberley’s coat off, My shoulder was killing me. I finally rid the wet material off my body and placed it on the radiator to dry. I made my way down the hall to the kitchen slowly. My ankle was still hurting but I could put a tiny bit of weight on it now. I opened the freezer door and took out a bag of oven chips.

“Cheryl” I heard Kimberley’s muffled voice from the bedroom.

I put the chips on the table and made my way to the bedroom, I stopped by the mirror in the hall quickly and wiped the visible mud from my face and neck.

“Yeah babe” I tried to smile as she looked up at me from under the duvet cover

“I woke up and you wasn’t here?”  She told me with a sad expression

“Had to take Lou a walk” I told her hiding behind the door, I didn’t want my mucky wet clothes to worry her

“You’ve been ages” She pouted

“No, I’ve not . . I took the DVD back” I told her

“You have, I was worried” She moaned

“I’m fine, Go back to sleep Kim”

“Are you coming to bed” She asked me

“Soon, I’m gonna have a shower first” I smiled at her

“Ok, Don’t be long” She said snuggling back down the covers

“I wont” As soon as she turned her back to me I limped into the bedroom and picked up my PJ’s then I  made my way in to the bathroom locking the door.

I sat on the side of the bath tub and slowly slid my jumper and T-shirt off my body,  I then did the same with my jeans and socks. As soon as I took my woolly socks off I noticed the swelling around my ankle. I pulled my PJ bottoms on and got to my feet and looked at myself in the bathroom mirror. I gasped loudly when I saw my shoulder in the mirror, It was already turning a dark shade of  blue and there was a deep gash under my collar bone. I tried to move my shoulder but it was too painful. I picked up my PJ top in right hand and walked back into the kitchen, I sat down at the table and held the frozen bag of Oven Chips to my shoulder. I sat like that for a while until my shoulder felt numb, I then tried to move it again. Thankfully I could move it slightly. I then placed the nearly de-thawed Chips on my ankle for a few minutes.
