You're Under Arrest. (Cop!Levi x Thief!Reader)

  You scramble through the streets as you try to get away from a number of cops that were chasing you. You ran as fast as your legs would let you, but a kid like you would get no where as far as a group of police men following hot on your trail. You turn a corner and find yourself at a dead end and you spin around in fear as they surround you.

  Levi's eyes narrow as he notices that you were very small. He had expected a much older thief, but to be presented with a young girl that was clutching a couple of apples in your hands, he was beginning to doubt that this case was very serious. He motions for his other comrades to let down their guards with an outstretch of an arm. He lowers himself to one knee and meets eye to eye with you.

  He notices your shaking shoulders and puts on his best comforting tone before opening his mouth to ask a few questions. He examines you to find that you looked painfully malnourished and dirty.

"We're not going to hurt you, so don't be scared. Where are your parents?" He asks carefully to witness you fumble with the apples. 

"Please sir! These are for my mother." You whimper as he reaches over to pick it up for you.

"Where is she?" He asks about your caretaker again and you hang your head in silence.

"Listen...we aren't going to arrest you because you never had a record for crimes. We just need to talk to your parents." He was beginning to grow impatient with you and his voice was lifting without him noticing.

"Will...will you help my mother? She's...I don't know what's wrong with her..she-" You stammer and Levi places a reassuring hand on your shoulder as he stands.

"We'll do the best we can."

  As you lead them through a series of dark alleyways, the police men were faced with a horrible sight. A woman was laying on the cold streets; unmoving. Levi's eyes dart to your worried face to realize that you didn't know that she was already gone. He felt his heart clench as he remembered that he had witnessed something similar too. He too, had lost his only family. He places a hand on your shoulder and squeezes in attempt to comfort you.

"I'm sorry, you're mother is already gone." He whispers as he grits his teeth with difficulty.

'What-what do you mean? She's..gone?" You whisper as you look up into his eyes with the fear he had seen on many faces.

"She's...dead...kid." One of the cops answers bluntly and Levi throws a glare to shut him up.

"What's your name?" Levi asks softly and he hands you a tissue for you to use for your tears.

"(Your Name)." You sniff.

"Okay (Your Name), you're going to have to trust me and come with me. Are you going to cooperate nicely?" He coaxes and you nod hesitantly.

  You were taken to a nearby police station and the authorities had decided to send you to a foster care agency, but every one of them rejected you because they were just too over capacity. By the state you were in, you didn't have anywhere to go at that moment. The sky begins to darken slowly and you grow groggy by the second. Not having too much to eat, and also because of all the things had happened that day, you were really really tired.

  Levi feels a small thud on his shoulder to see that you had fallen asleep on him. He wondered how you ended up this way. You seemed like a bright girl with a very bright future, but at that moment, you were a broken child. In a way, he had empathy for you. He had experienced similar things and he knew exactly how hard it was to live like that. He stares into a spot on the wall as he listens to your steady breathing, that's when he makes up his mind.

"I'll take her. I'll be her guardian." He announces and his co-workers all look up in surprise.

"Levi, this isn't a joke! You know the responsibilities of taking her in?" They try to reason with him, thinking he was just plain insane.

"I know, and I accept all responsibility. I'm not leaving a girl in this state. I'll sign the consent papers and am taking her back with me." He nods and everyone has no choice but to do as he says.

  A few years had passed by quickly under Levi's care. You finally had a normal life, and at that moment, you were working and also attending classes for your last year in university. Levi wasn't just your mentor and caretaker, you knew that the moment you first met him, that you loved the man that gave you a chance at a new life. You wanted to stay by his side forever, and someday repay him for his deeds.

"I'm home." You hear him call as he places his shoes neatly on the shoe rack.

  You quickly greet him with a big hug, in which he complained and nagged about before giving you a quick hug back.

"Welcome home." You whisper as your cheeks flush bright pink while you allow yourself to smile.
