-Enjoy! It may be a little Angsty.-
Out of all the things you could remember, the one constant memory lingered in your mind on days that rained. You could still feel the cold drops pouring over your heads and soaking through your uniforms. The sky was misty and dark and large clouds crowded overhead. It was as if they all gathered to watch the strongest soldier eroding way helplessly.
Everybody was dead silent as they watched from afar. The screeching of titans subsided eventually and they were hit with the merciless sense of unsurprising defeat. Once again, casualties were high and lives were ripped away from the most innocent of all. Nobody had anything to say to console the man. At that moment, he was unstable and practically radiating hatred.
Your teeth clenched down on your already chapped lips as you watch the man you loved for so long crumble under the sky. The sorrowful cries of the sky commenced, and it's weeping grew heavier. Your shoulders began to tremble as the freezing rain nipped at your body. You couldn't watch him in that state for any longer, so you turned away to come face to face with Erwin Smith.
"You must hate me immensely right now." He states matter-of-factly.
"No...Sir."
"You might want to do something about your friend over there, if you don't want him to end up like them...that is."
His tranquil eyes never left your own (Your Eye Color) ones as the words slither out of his wet lips. When you met his stare, you couldn't help but wonder how such a serious face could come with the most expressive gaze. They were the colour of a vast blue sea that carried many undiscovered secrets. With one look, you understood what you had to do. Your fists clenched over your fingers as you bit back the belligerent words that were at the tip of your tongue. He gives you a small and supportive nod before climbing on to slick back of his horse with relative ease. You force yourself to tear your eyes away from his and spin on your heels towards the weeping silhouette.
"Levi." you called out his name whilst trying to control your own emotions.
You tried not to look down at the ground where the decapitated carcasses lay, but your distrustful eyes did otherwise. Your hand automatically traveled up to your mouth as the ugly sobs catch at your throat. The overwhelming stench of their blood sent your mind into a whirlwind of flashbacks as the rain masked your tears. It was so surreal, how they were alive and well just a few hours ago. But now Farlan and Isabel were gone, and there was nothing you could have ever done to save them.
Levi was dead silent, and his face was still clouded over. After witnessing his distorted rage as he sliced up every single titan in his sight, you would be lying if you said you weren't terrified. Just as you opened your mouth to say something, you hear the maliciously low growls from a distance. You didn't have much time, and at this rate, you were going to lose him too. Your numbers were almost halved, and there was no way you would be able to fight another battle and come out alive.
"Levi! You need to fucking snap out of it! We're going to die here!!!" you screamed as you grab on to his damp shoulders to pull him up.
Still, he had no response.
"We need to go! FARLAN AND ISABEL WOULDN'T WANT THIS!!!" your shrill voice echoed around.
At the mention of their names, he immediately bolted up and lashed out to grab on to your neck with one hand while he positioned the broken blade against your neck with the other.
"DO NOT tell me what they would have wanted for me! Don't you get it? They're dead because of him. How can you just forget that and join HIM!" he hissed as he dug the blade deeper into your skin as he glared over your head at the blonde-haired man.
"Look at you. Are you going to kill me? You're not the only one who's grieving, Levi. I lost them too. But if we stay here, we're BOTH going to die." you whispered as you searched his eyes hopefully.
"Then go." he sighed shakily as he threw you aside.
"Please. Don't do this. Don't leave me alone in this world." you sobbed.
Levi's body froze up at your words before turning to meet your eyes. You looked like you were on the verge of collapse too. The blood from your head wound dripped down your chin as it blotted the green layer of your jacket. He was so preoccupied with his own grief, that he completely forgot about you. You had said those exact same words when you both first met. You were a frail child that was starving to death, and he had saved you from the slums. You were as close to him as he ever was with Farlan and Isabel. His eyes widened before filling up with the most sorrowful tears. He brought you into his arms tightly as he buried his face into your hair. His warm tears ran down the side of your side as his sobs rang out crisply.
"Never." he hushed.
Rain fell as if it meant to wash you away. On the contrary, the downpour on that day cleansed your clouded mind and fuelled your will to survive together. Now that the battle for humanity has been won, you kept your promise to those who died fighting for this victory, and that was to live on without regrets.
