-I hope you guys have a Happy New Year! Enjoy!-

Humans are pathetic creatures that serve no real purpose in this world. We believe that every other living thing is below us and we torment everyone and everything in our sight. It's just the way humans are programmed nowadays. Instead of trying to make the world a more sustainable place, we throw away and sacrifice lives to fight a stupid and useless war that has no end. Countries are at war. But for what? When we finally tip the balance of the earth, we will realise that wealth will not keep us alive. Even so, humans cannot piece the truth together. Some are even willing to die fighting and blowing other people apart. Pride is the most useless handicap. You never really understood this statement until you watched someone you love give up everything for his so-called "humanity".

"(Your Name). I've been called back into duty." Levi says softly as he avoids your gaze by pouring a cup of tea for himself.

"Are-are you actually thinking of going? Levi, we talked about this. You can't just-" your voice shakes uncontrollably with the horror of letting him go again.

"I can't just sit back and watch the world plummeting into chaos." he replies before turning around to face you again.

"The war you are about to fight is the CAUSE of the chaos. You're contributing to bloodshed and murder, how is that helping anything?! This 'humanity' you keep fighting for, it's not humane at all!" you cannot help but raise your voice in complete frustration.

It seems that you have reached your limit, because everything around you melts away as your breathing grows more ragged and harsh. It probably wasn't the most ideal time to have a panic attack, but the thought of losing your loved one threw your thoughts into a turmoil. You can see Levi trying to say something, but you cannot hear any of the words escaping his mouth. Levi watches you worriedly as you grow paler by the second and decides to step in when your shoulders begin to tremble. He places his hands behind your ears and forces you to look into his sharp eyes until your breathing returns to normal. Levi leans in until his forehead gently knocks on to yours. His expression seems pained, but you know that there is nothing you can do to change his mind.

"If only the world was that simple, (Your Name). Please try to understand where I'm coming from. You know yourself, we humans are stubborn. We don't accept change easily. Until change happens, I have no choice but to stand by my country. Because we live here, and I have to protect you." he whispers hoarsely before pressing his lips to your eyelid.

The heavy tears begin to stream down your face until the silent sobs become too hard for you to bear. Levi brings you into his chest before hugging on to you tightly to calm you down. You know that it hurts Levi seeing you like this, but you cannot help but despise him at that moment. You have to use all of your willpower not to push him away and potentially say harsh things that would shock him. The  world you are living in is harsh and scary. But there was nothing that you could do at that moment.

After he left with the army, you were left alone. It felt like you had lost a part of you to something evil. However, you stayed up every night to stare at the sky of stars above you. It was the most reassuring things out there that kept you from sleeping all day. The thought of Levi looking up at the same sky warmed your heart from the bottom to the top. At least, you were beneath the same sky...right?

Madam, it is my painful duty to inform you that a report has this day been received from the War Office notifying the death of 543542 Heichou Levi Ackerman. I am to express to you the sympathy and regret of the Army Council for your loss. The cause of death was Killed in Action. Any application you may wish to make regarding the late soldiers effects should be addressed to The Survey Corps House.

You had received the simple letter days after his death. It turned out that during those days where you were oblivious, he was not looking up at the same firmament. In fact, he was looking down at you from the same starry night sky.

P.S Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that this was an angst.
