You click on your infant's seat belt and climb into the front seat and click yours on too as you run you rake your hand through your messy hair that you didn't have time to style or do anything to. Everyday of the week would have a rush hour period in the late afternoon. The reason for this hectic length of time was because you had to pick up all your children from school and back home.
"Ready to go?" Your husband flicks his fingers under your chin comfortingly and you give him a slight smile which follows a nod.
The scenery passes by as the car runs smoothly down the highway. You stare out the window silently as you remember the time where Levi would drive you home from your dates. You were allowed to stick your head out of the window and feel the roaring breeze take you away into your own little world. You still felt the wind slicing through your hands, giving you a sense of hope that this feeling would last forever.
"(Your Son's Name)...roll the window back up darling...it's dangerous to stick your head out when there are cars in the opposite lane." You nag softly and watch his face fall with annoyance and disappointment.
"Listen to your mother, Son." Your husband supports you gently and you cannot help but feel guilty for him.
It wasn't because you didn't love him. In other words, you were grateful to him for bringing you onwards in life. He had brought your wonderful kids and worked hard to keep supporting the so called happy life you were privileged to have. But humans are built to be selfish, they want more and more endlessly even thought they may not show it. There was one thing that you wanted, and that was to go back in time and hold on to that one person before he disappeared from your life. Your heart felt heavy because he was not the one that you couldn't get out of your mind. You knew deep down, that that one person was somewhere far away, he was someone from the past.
You find your mind wandering again as you sit at home, your baby girl clinging to your chest tightly as you nursed her. You cannot help but observe her tiny angelic face, and instead of hoping for a bright future, you catch yourself hoping that she stayed pure and innocent. But you also knew that this was impossible. A tear runs down your cheek and drops on to your child's cheek; startling her into a loud series of crying. You quickly wipe away your tears as your husband comes to check on the ruckus. You plaster a smile and walk out of the room as your husband offers to soothe her. You briefly mention that you needed to get some groceries for dinner, and drop a meaningless peck on to your husband's cheek before shutting the door.
The night life in Tokyo was truly beautiful. The lights replaced the natural glimmer of stars, it reminded you of that tiny speckle of hope you still recalled. You quickly quash it back down into your depths of thoughts as you pick out ingredients. You glance up from the bright red apple that you held in your palms to see packets of tea lined up neatly in the booth in front of you. You remembered how much you enjoyed brewing tea for him. You loved the way he held his cup between his fingers. Again, you remind yourself to stop linking everything you see back to him. Your heart grows overwhelmingly heavy and you feel your hand beginning to tremble as the tears threatened to fall.
The apple slips out of your fingers, and you don't even bother picking it up. It rolls a few feet away from you, and is stopped by an elegant finger. As you turn around with your basket weighing down on you, your eyes wander and you meet eyes with the person that you never thought you'd see ever again. He looked exactly the same, it was like his beauty had been preserved for all these years. He instantly recognises you too, and you want to run and hide from him. You wanted him to just disappear from your memory. The pain intensifies as you see the real him again. Even as you attempt to flee, you had to force yourself not to throw yourself into the his arms.
"How...have you been?" You hear his voice resonate within you; creating an emotional dissonance that you never felt before.
Horrible.
Why are you here?
You left me.
Why do I have to see your face again?
You know you have to answer him somehow, but the words catch in your throat as the tears begin to stream. His face wavers as he witnesses your face contort with the worst pain he had ever seen you in. Just as he was going to comfort you, your reunion is interrupted.
"(Your Name)! You were taking so long, so I told (Your Eldest Son's Name) to watch over-Who's this?" Your husband walks up to you with your baby daughter fast asleep against his back.
It's too late now.
"Nobody (Your Husband's Name). Let's go home."
