-This was kind of weird to write, because I mean...Levi is a CAT in this oneshot LMAO. Anyway, I tried my best, so I hope you enjoy!-
"I'm home~" You greet as you enter the house while hopping on one foot to put your shoes on the rack.
Meow~
You look down to see Levi meowing up at you as if he was greeting you himself. You bend down to your knees and begin to pet him gently, Levi rarely purred, however, it wasn't like you've never heard him purr before. He was the type of cat to only purr for a certain someone, and that certain someone was you.
"You're hungry aren't you?" You smile down at Levi as his grey eyes meet yours intensely, maybe it was just your imagination, but it looked as if he had nodded.
Nevertheless, you pour some cat food into his bowl and watch him as he takes his time chewing his food. You couldn't help but notice how neatly he would eat. In fact, he was a neat cat in general. He would never make a mess anywhere. Sometimes you think that he's more neat that you could ever be.
You tried to keep the house spotless because whenever you didn't, Levi would get super agitated and paranoid. He would scratch at you and hiss at you until you get off you butt to clean the house at least once a week. He was a very strange cat, but you loved him all the same.
You never felt lonely with him, he was never a boring cat. It was like he had his own little personality. Whenever you felt down or sad, he would always be there for you. Maybe it was a human thing, but you could empathize with this creature, and he made you smile unlike any human you had interacted with throughout the day. It was ironic that you couldn't even keep a proper conversation with a normal human being, but you could sit and talk to your cat for god knows how long.
It was one rainy day when you are woken up by a crackle of thunder. You quickly try to calm your thudding heart with your sweaty palms to realize that something felt wrong. Levi, who would always curl up on top of you, was missing. You look around the room and even resort to crawling under the bed to check if he was hiding, but he was no where to be found. Your heart leaps to your throat as you leap around the house calling his name, but there was still no reply from your pet.
That's when you gasp as you see the front door that was open. It wasn't open that wide, but it was wide enough for your cat to slip by. Despite the rain, you dash out of your house, desperately shouting his name. You were so panicked that you forget to put on shoes, or even bring an umbrella for that matter. The rain pelts your skin and goosebumps arise almost immediately, the weather was really cold. It would be horrible for a cat to be out in the cold rain like this.
At that moment, you felt like your whole heart had shattered into a million pieces as you see something black laying in the middle of the road. You run towards it, tripping in the process but getting back up, totally ignoring the pain. Your throat begins to make hysterical noises that you never thought you would ever make. Tears ran down your face, mixing with the raindrops dripping down your face. You could hear every painful sob that left your body.
Your shaky hands cradle the limp animal to your chest as you throw your head up into the sky to let out a small cry. People would have thought you were insane, being heartbroken over a pet was something that was never really something that people sympathized about. Throughout all the shit in your life, Levi was the one that was there for you at all times. He was the reason you never crumbled from loneliness or depression, yet now, you were truly alone.
After burying him in your front porch, your soul was pretty much empty. You didn't know where to go with your life, and everyday was just a horrible obligation to wake up and go to work. When Levi was still alive, the evenings were the most important part of your day, because you got to bond with him. However, the evenings now were spent at a bar. You would usually get unspeakably drunk, and just collapse and repeat the cycle over and over again.
You put your head on the table as you stare at the perspiration of your glass of brandy. You run your finger along the cold smoothness of glass and close your eyes to prevent the tears from dripping down.
"Oi..it's almost closing time..don't you think you had enough to drink already? Go home...brat." You hear a man's voice and you slouch forward as you tilt your head to see who this voice belonged to.
It was a black-haired man with an intimidating undercut. He had his arms on his hips, but the one thing that caught your attention was the color of his eyes.
Grey.
