Chapter Thirty

I don't remember when I fell asleep, but when I eventually woke up, I found myself seriously hoping that everything that had happened last night was just a crazy, amazingly realistic dream that my wild imagination had conjured up. A girl could keep her fingers crossed, right?

I dragged myself out of bed and slipped into a more casual dress- not exactly fit for a queen- but perfect for a warrior who was setting out to fight the three greatest villains in all of Disney. Yeah, a frilly pink ballgown wouldn't exactly help me kick some major villainous butt.

Sweeping my red hair up in a quick seahorse tail- no, sorry, ponytail- I took a deep breath and opened the doors of my room. I was totally ready to tackle the day! Sort of!

I ran down the winding stairs of my palace, my shoes gliding down the stairs gracefully. It suddenly occurred to me that this could be the very last time I would be casually going down my stairs. I could be, well, I could be dead by the end of the day. We would be setting out to find the Big Three today, and the chances of us actually surviving to come back to our kingdoms and continue our peaceful rule and live happily ever after, well...

Those chances were pretty slim, lets just leave it at that.

I pushed away the negative thoughts and focused on the now, forcing a bright smile onto my tired face. I could never let anyone know what was truly going on inside my head- that was the number one rule of being a queen. And I had broken that rule last night, on the balcony. And- oh Walt, the depressing thoughts were coming back.

How in the world was I going to face Aladdin after last night? Or Eric, for that matter? I was... a cheater. I had cheated on the love of my life, my husband, my Prince Eric. How could he ever learn to trust me once more? I was so blindingly angry at him for kissing Mara, and he hadn't even really kissed her! But I, I had actually wanted to kiss Aladdin. And as horrible as it made me feel, I still wanted to kiss him.

Can you believe that? After everything I had been through with Eric, and all the new information that had been revealed to me, my feelings for Aladdin just couldn't seem to go away. And I knew they would never go away. I would always find myself hopelessly... in like with Aladdin.

Happy thoughts Ariel, don't let them see inside. And with yet another deep breath, I entered the dining room, my fake smile eternally plastered. I wasn't surprised to see Aurora already sitting there, munching on a light croissant, her composure perfect as ever, and her beauty just as radiant. Once again, I found myself a teeny bit jealous of her picture perfect princess ways.

I knew that she herself was going through many troubles of her own, much worse than my petty little 'love triangle', and yet she managed to keep on her seamless facade of calmness and collection. How? If we made it out of this mess, we were most definitely going to talk about how she managed to do it all over tea and crumpets, or something equally princess-like.

I was, however, a bit surprised to see Aladdin sitting opposite of Aurora. His hair was a mess, his clothes were wrinkled, and he looked as if he hadn't slept a wink. So in short, he was gorgeous as always. Maybe last night didn't actually happen?

Fingers still crossed, we met eyes and he immediately looked away, blushing madly. Okay so last night did actually happen. Wonderful.

I myself began to match the color of my hair, but in an attempt to break through the clear tension, I gave a cheerful greeting.

"Good morning!" I sang, taking my place at the head of the table.

"Morning. You are looking gorgeous as ever." Aurora smiled sweetly, her compliment a hundred percent genuine. I laughed at this, my blush deepening. See, this was why no one could ever hate Aurora. She was perfect, and while that was infuriating for those of us who weren't just as amazing in every way, she was so genuinely kind, you just couldn't get mad at her for her beauty!
