Chapter 25

His lips are pressed against mine and everything makes sense for a brief moment. Eric's hands reach up to my red hair, and he pulls me in closer.

Every single sense of mine is sharpened, and I am hyper aware of everything going on around me. The warm sun shines on the both of us, and the oceans waves come crashing onto the shore behind me. Aladdin clears his throat and-

Wait a minute. Aladdin. My eyes that had closed in all the love and sweetness suddenly snapped open, and I realized that I was kissing not my beautiful prince, but a traitor. I pushed Eric away, anger rushing through me, a tidal wave of fury.

I still was very much aware of the surroudings, but this time it was deffinitely not because of love.

"How could you?" I shouted at him, my hands clenched into fists at my sides.

"No you don't understand- I dind't mean to- I was just- Ariel please-" Eric stammered and mumbled, tripping over his sentences. He was so red and flustered I would be an idiot to think he was telling the truth.

Aurora calmly came in between me and Eric, giving him the coldest stare I had ever seen her give anyone. Eric paled, and even I felt a little shiver. She was scary when she wanted to be.

"Excuse me, but we have business to attend to." Aurora held her head up high, grabbed my hand and sauntered away. "Come on now Aladdin, we don't have time to fight with cheating kings."

I looked behind us, only just realizing that Aladdin was just about to punch Eric. Now that is something I would have paid to see. Much more amusing than Mara slobbering all over Eric like a dog. He angrily stomped over to us, clearly frustrated at the fact that he wasn't able to punch Eric, but still intimidated enough by Aurora to listen to her.

"We need to go to the barn and get horses so we can get to Malificents castle as soon as possible." I said flatly, my voice purposely devoid of any and all emotion. I felt so incredibly mad before, and now I just felt.... empty.

"Oh Ariel, the three can wait my dear," Aurora squeezed my hand affectionately, her face a mask of worry. "We need to rest and replenish a little first." She chose her words carefully, but I could see clearly through them.

What she had really said was 'Dealing with Eric has hurt you too much, you need to relax a little.'

"Yeah what she said, I'm starving!" Aladdin took a hold of my other hand, and the butterflies in my stomach fluttered. "Pirate food is well... it tastes just how one would think pirate food would taste like." He wrinkled his nose, and Aurora and I laughed.

This was better. Being with him, I felt so calm and so happy. I didn't have a care in the world around him, and he even eased my troubles with Eric. They both knew exactly what would make me feel better, and I was so glad I told them about the kiss Mara and Eric had shared.

"I'll get Grimsby to cook us up something, and I can get you all rooms." I smiled reassuringly, stepping off of the sand and onto the tiles of my kingdom. The normally bustling village was surprisngly empty. So the news of the Big Three had gotten out...

I led the three of us into my castle, feeling more at home than ever before. I sighed deeply, so glad to finally be back home. It hadn't even been five complete days, and I had missed this palace oh so much. I walked through the neatly trimmed gardens, avoiding the grand entrance, and taking a more secretive door that was hidden on the side of the castle.

I regretfully let go of Aladdin and Aurora's hands, opened the little wooden door with a creak, and stepped through piles of groceries and little baskets of all the things needed to keep a castle going.

"Just go up these stairs, and you'll be in the kitchen." I pointed to a set of smooth marble stairs that led up to another door. "I just need a moment." Aurora nodded and glided up the stairs swiflty, slipping into the kitchen.

Aladdin hesitated and stood back for a moment. He leaned in and looked as if he were about to... No. He paused, and stood straight suddenly, his expression annoyingly unreadable. "Uh, good luck." He muttered, and ran up the stairs.

I shook my head and smiled to myself, what a strange and beautiful man that was. I took another deep breath, leaning agaisnt the slightly damp wall of the little cellar. I noticed a basket that carried  few miscallaneous items, and immediately recognized it as Mara's.

I scowled and kicked it over without a second thought, the contents spilling over. A black notebook fell over and I bent down, picking it up. I opened it and noticed a few sketches of Eric.

I dropped the notebook in shock and ran away from it, climbing up the stairs as quickly as I could. I had to get away from that. Did Eric keep drawings of her as well?

I shook the thought out of my head, and opened the door to the kithcen. I was overcome by the delicious smell of something warm and swett- something that had pie written all over it. I excitedly skipped over to a fruit basket and took out a pear.

"Ohhh, is this apple pie, because I-" I paused mid sentence, pear halfway to my mouth when I saw a familiar face gaping at me. Mara paled when she saw me notice her, and looked down, pretending to wipe the counter.

I put the pear down and frowned, a million thoughts running through my head. There were so many things I wanted to say to her but no. I was a queen. I would act like one.

"Your basket fell over in the cellar. Please go pick it up." I said with almost as much coolness as Aurora, and turned back to my friends as she scampered away, my brow raised.

I bit into my pear and munched on it for a few moments before explaining the situation to Aurora and Aladdin, who were both eating what looked like fresh biscuits. So Grimsby had gotten to them.

"That was the girl." I rolled my eyes, and they both immediately understood. Aurora hugged me tightly.

"You handled that like a true queen." She beamed at me, and I couldn't help but feel a little pride.

Aladdin, on the other hand, snorted. He could clearly see through my calm demeanor.

"You kicked her basket over didn't you?"

I sheepishly nodded and we both laughed as Aurora shook her head, finishing up the last of her biscuit as she smiled in poorly disguised pride.
