Chapter 10

Aurora held the hat close to her heart, and she was shaking. It looked like she could barely breathe, her chest rising and falling at a rapid speed. Her eyes were squeezed shut and she looked crestfallen.

Gone was that comforting look she had given me only moments ago, and in its place was a look of pure rage and sadness rolled into one. Aladdin looked worried, but it seemed his worry was directed to Aurora and not to the lost prince.

Tears were streaming down her face, little rivers emerging from her violet eyes. She was sobbing so quietly, and it was completely silent, even the birds stopped their cheerful song, watching their princess break down.

I took a small step towards her. I slowly stroked her hair, trying my best to comfort her. "I'm sure he's fine." I whispered. At this she whipped her head around at a neck breaking speed.

She gave me a look of complete and utter disbelief. "Ariel. Do. Not. Lie. To. Me." She hissed, emphasizing each word. Both me and Aladdin took a step back as she hugged the red cap closer to her chest.

Her soft pink toga had grass stains from sitting for so long, and she was rocking back and forth, which only rubbed the grass in more.

I hated seeing her like this, and I couldn't even do anything about it. "Aladdin, I'm going to the cottage. It should be near." I whispered in his ear before walking away.

Either he was too shocked to stop me or he was fine with me going, either way he let me go and I was fine with that. The scenery looked familiar and I remembered the time she invited us for a 'super secret tea party' at her old home, the cottage.

I stopped when I saw a little pond, and turned left. Right in front of me I saw the beautiful little cottage! Thank you amazing sense of direction.

The roof was made of thatched hay, and the walls consisted of bricks. Shutters covered the windows and I couldn't see a thing inside.

Slowly and cautiously I rose my hand, about to open the door. I stopped myself for a moment. What was I doing here anyway? But wait, why was this scaring me?

I sighed and sucked my breath in. Opening the door as fast as I could, I was greeted by a musky smell and there was a fine layer of dust covering everything.

I took in my surroundings, the black pot in the kitchen that lay underneath the chimney and the broom that sat in a corner. I noticed that there was dust even on the bristles of the room, making this room feel ancient.

I slowly ascended the small staircase heading for Aurora's room. There was no door separating her room from the hallway so I simply strolled right in. Her bed had a deep purple sheet on top, with fine green embroidery. The pillows looked fluffy and inviting and I felt like taking a nap right here and now.

I looked around for any kind of chest or something where she might have kept her clothes, the toga she wore was falling apart, and it really didn't suit her.

I found a small treasure chest at the foot of her inviting bed, and I peeked in it. Inside was all kinds of articles of clothing, including her trademark peasant dress.

I took that dress out and folded it into my lap. She would be so excited and maybe she would cheer up if she saw her dress.

The thought of her smiling made me instantly happier. How nice would it be for little miss sunshine to stop storming. It just didn't fit her personality, her being depressed and all.

I rummaged around her little chest some more before retrieving a simple pink dress that stopped just below the knees. It swayed with every movement of mine and the sleeves were just below the shoulders.

I breathed in delight, fingering the cottony material. I quickly unwrapped my toga before slipping in the new pink dress. I turned around in the full length mirror she had, and I felt beautiful.

The fabric felt like nothing, and for once after I had joined land, I felt absolutely free in my clothing. Why, I could do anything!

I quickly fastened my bushy red hair in a seahorse- no pony tail using a ribbon I had found before leaving.

I went into the kitchen to see if there was any food, but alas there wasn't a morsel of delicious energy anywhere. I sighed in disappointment, but I mean what could you do?

I tiptoed out of the cottage, trying not to disturb the silence and loneliness of the home before shutting the door as gently as possible. I retraced my steps carrying Aurora's will be dress.

She would love it, I just know! I ran back to the spot where Aurora and Aladdin had been, clutching Aurora's dress tightly in my hands. I retraced my steps and soon I was back at the place where they sat.

I gently nudged Aurora, and she slowly turned around. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying and her face was very wet. I pitied her. Then I felt a little bubble of jealousy flaring up inside me.

It took over my mind, plunging me into deep and ugly thoughts. I wish I had a prince to be worried about. I finally understood how the villains felt, sad and angry at the world for not giving them a happily ever after.

I stopped right there. What was wrong with me? How could I even think about stupid superficial things like Eric? And at a time like this? "Yes Ariel?" She sniffed.

"Here." I whispered hoarsely handing her her clothes. She smiled a little and took them, obviously grateful. With that little smile, all the jealousy melted away and I felt myself again. Thank goodness for Aurora!

I glanced at Aladdin, and he took the hint, getting up and going behind a big tree. Aurora changed behind another rather large tree, and she slowly tiptoed out.

Her golden hair rested on her shoulders and the dress suited her perfectly. She slowly wiped away the last tear, and put the red hat of Phillips in her pocket.

"Thank you." She managed to say before sitting on the carpet, her whole body rigid like an ice sculpture. I nodded and called for Aladdin. "We're leaving now Al." I yelled.

He awkwardly stumbled from behind the tree, still in his toga. "Mr.Greek." I smirked playfully. He blushed and gave me a dirty look, before remembering Aurora's somber mood and he quickly regained a nonchalant expression.

"Go there and straight." Aurora mumbled as we all boarded, pointing in the direction of the cottage. Aladdin took the pilots seat and nodded before taking off, the air pushing my face.

This time we rode slowly, letting Aurora mill over what she had just seen. The soft breeze blew my hair back, and my shoulders felt a little bare, but free.

Aurora stayed silent the whole time, fingering the hat in her pockets, and Aladdin and I just kept quiet, not wanting to disturb a broken hearted girl.
