Chapter 5
After walking for what seemed like an endless day, we had reached Meg's favorite place to be. The garden. The sun had just set, and the fresh scent of flowers lingered in the air, and the statues all around us cast shadows on the ground.
The sky slowly turned from blue to pink, to purple and finally night had settled. Aurora lit a candle she also had stashed in her white dress (what did the girl not have?) and we followed the small light.
"Over here." Aurora whispered even though there really was no need to. No one was around after all. Aurora patted the base of a statue and me and Aladdin looked all the way up to the statues head, which portrayed an image of Herclules.
"I need to get some tips on working out from him." Aladdin smirked "Aurora how do you know Meg will be here?" I asked Aurora. Meg could be, well, a little unpredictable. "I know her." Aurora confirmed.
We waited by the statue. Slowly sinking until we were sitting on the soft green grass bow the statue. We stayed silent as we waited for Meg. In the slow minutes that followed, I kept my mind occupied with thoughts of my Eric.
I should have told him to come to Greece so he could be safe! Oh, and now I would have to wait a week before I could tell him. I sighed and started playing with my hair, absentmindedly braiding it with my hands.
Despite my red hair being a mess, I had managed to tie it into a loose French braid. I secured the braid with a rope before pulling the rope off and starting again, this time with a regular braid.
Aladdin paced back back and forth at the foot of the statue, chewing his lip thoughtfully. He put his hands through his hair multiple times nervously, no doubt thinking about Jasmine.
Where had the princesses gone anyways? The Big Three must have locked them up someplace. I shivered to think of what they'd do for revenge. They were probably I some cold dark place, wit no happiness or love. And here we are, the main targets frolicking around.
Aurora was literally frolicking around the garden, admiring statues and smelling flowers. She was humming and dancing as if lost in a dream. A little flock of squirrels had gathered around her feet, which was adorable.
As I looked at Aurora, I thought 'this was what a true princess was like'. She was maintaining her kind and dreamy princess throughout chaos. I sighed putting my palm on my cheek. I would never be able to dance like that, I was much too clumsy! And the only animals who loved me were sea animals, but there wasn't so much a goldfish to admire in this garden.
"So..." Aladdin said to me as he sat down on the little slab of stone beneath Hercules's feet. "Nice weather we got." I replied awkwardly. He laughed, his eyes sparkling and I joined in. "Look at Aurora! How can a girl even do that amidst all this trouble?" He obviously knew nothing about being a Disney princess. I flicked his shoulder as he finished his sentence. "You're just jealous."
As Aladdin laughed, Aurora rose her eyebrow, clearly thinking we were flirting. I shrugged as she gave me an icy glare, and she slowly walked towards us. "It should be 12:00 soon. Meg will come out." She explained watching us carefully before sitting in the middle of us.
I couldn't stop my eye roll, Aurora was just as protective as my daddy, King Triton. All of a sudden, the air cooled just like it had when Aurora said 'Underworld' in the sky. The air tensed, as if the plants were holding their breath, and the squirrels that had collected by Aurora'a feet scampered away.
I gulped, dark magic was happening. I know how to sense it when it comes. There was a bright purple light, and I had to guard my face with my hands as the shimmering continued. Finally, the light stopped and I forced myself to look.
"Hercules?" Meg breathed as she saw us. She was obviously confused. I looked at Meg, her eyes looked dull, losing their sly sparkle, and she wore a black hooded cloak instead of her usual purple toga. This was not the Meg I knew.
"No Meg, it's me Aurora." Aurora carefully spoke, not bothering to mention me and Aladdin. "I'm Ala-" just as Aladdin was going to introduce himself, but Aurora slapped his shoulder, signaling him to be quiet.
"Aurora! You must go its not safe!" Meg's eyes widened in fear as she spoke. "Meg, please tell me where the girls are." Begged Aurora. She had stood up now and was face to face with Meg.
Aurora raised her hand, and touched Meg's, but it only went through Meg's hand. Meg withdrew her hand, still wide eyes. "We are in the dungeon far away from here. At Malificent's castle." Aurora turned pale at her words.
"Please save us." She whispered. And then she turned her head to the right suddenly, like a dog. "Leave! Now! Hades will come!" And then Meg disappeared in a big purple cloud. "Hurry!" Aladdin said, running out of the garden. We followed, but I turned to Aurora as we ran. "I thought we had to see Hades?" I asked. "I thought Hades was keeping them!" She shouted back.
We ran and ran all the way to the exit. By the time we had gotten there, we were out of breath and panting. Just as we were about to leave, there was a deep rumbling sound, like a beast clearing its throat.
We stood there paralyzed as a giant blue flame erupted in the center of the garden, a mere thirty feet in front of us stood Hades, Lord of the Underworld, glaring at us.
