Chapter 24
Flying on Hooks ship was just as comfortable as it could get. And when I say that, I mean that it was the worst experience in my life. Even worse than riding on a flying carpet- and a flying carpet doesn't even have proper benches!
Hook's crew was terrifying, and they reminded me of the folks at the Snuggly Duckling, only skinnier, and meaner. I highly doubted any of them enjoyed cupcakes or playing piano, which was dreadfully boring.
Hooks plan was to land on my kingdoms beach, which was a perfect place to keep his ship safe. I was excited to see my beatiful beach, but I was a little less excited to see... Eric.
Last time I had seen him, he had been in the arms of someone else, and whenever I thought of Eric all I could imagine now was him with that girl. It was such a bad feeling. I tried my best to distract myself from the nauseous idea of meeting Eric again, and turned to Aladdin. He was the perfect escape, at least for now.
He was gazing out at the clouds we were passing, his deep brown eyes misted over with wonder, fear, and thought, all at the same time. His black hair blew beautifully in the wind, whipping all aorund his face. I had something to say to him, but it all crumbled in my mouth.
Looking at him just did something to me. I didn't have butterflies in my stomach, no, I had a million stars all exploding at once. I could have stared at him for hours, when Aurora tapped my shoulder.
I jumped, startled out of my Aladdin induced trance. I blinked a few times and cleared my throat, turning to face her.
"Hi, yes, um hello!" I tried my best to hide how flustered I was, but desperately failed. Gosh if she ever found out that I liked Aladdin... Well, Aurora was one of the more classical princesses, and she just would never let me hear the end of it.
Aurora looked at me strangely, her perfect porcelain features crumpling in a momentary wrinkle of confusion. She shook it off quickly, and cleared her throat. "So do you know when we are going to reach your kingdom?" She tugged at her collar, clearly nervous.
I couldn't blame her, Hook's crew was really vicious. And don't even get me started on the smell- Dear Walt it was terrible! And the fact that I got airsick very easily didn't help at all.
I looked over the side, red hair billowing out in front of me like a wonderful, frizzy, cape. I noticed a familiar clump of rocks, and came back up, before I could begin to think about just how high we were. I would definitely puke if I thought too much about that.
"We should be there any moment now." I smiled confidently at Aurora, when a pirate shouted from the top of the mast, waving his arms wildly.
"Land ho!" He cried, his mouth set in an uneven, black and yellow smile. We slowly descended onto the blue waters of my ocean, and bobbed in the salty sea. Hook threw a little boat in the water for the three of us, and I felt a surge of relief. Back on water! My turf!
"Thank you." Aurora kindly curtsied to Hook, who was taken aback by surprise.
"Just defeat the big three jerks..." He muttered gruffly, crossing his arms. Aladdin nodded at him and they both climbed down an unstable rope ladder.
I smiled at Hook and practically jumped out of the ship, sliding down the rope gracefully. I nearly capsized the small wooden craft as I dropped in it, and Aladdin threw his head back in laughter. I couldn't help the pink that creeped up my cheeks as he laughed joyously. So far, things had been going well.
I paddled over to the shore with a surprising amount of strength, and we made it to the warm sands in no time. I could have kissed the ground, I was so happy!
I stepped onto the hot sand gingerly, wriggling my toes around in the fine grains. Aladdin hugged Aurora and I, and everything was perfect! "We're almost there," he whispered into my hair, and I felt as if it were just me and him. Aurora wasn't there anymore, we were there, hugging, in my kingdom.
Wait. My kingdom. The kingdom that I ruled with... A sense of dread suddenly washed over me, a cold sensation that spread through my entire body. Eric was here.
As I though that, a familiar person came running down the beach, his black hair shining underneath the sun.
"Ariel!" Eric cried, and he picked me up and spun me around before I even had time to react. He pressed his lips against mine with such love, my breath was taken away.
And my world came crashing down right then and there.
