Chapter 17

I rubbed my eyes, trying to see if this was all real. I blinked twice before daring to open my eye lids. Nope, it was no mirage, we were really stuck in the desert. The sun was bright and hot, and I was immediately sweating underneath Aurora's pink dress that I had borrowed.

I felt sand underneath my bare feet, the little grains dry and round, not anything like the ones near oceans. Oceans.

Here in the middle of a desert, I felt completely helpless, I was more of an ocean girl if you understand what I'm saying. I looked around, my red ponytail swaying with every movement I made.

Aurora and Aladdin appeared to be knocked out, and I was completely alone. The sun beat down on my back, and already my body had a thin layer of sweat all over it. Gross.

Squinting my eyes I looked around trying to find any shelter or anything at all really, but I couldn't, it was completely barren around here.

Well that was lovely, here we were stranded, all alone in the middle of a desert without anything or anyone to help us out. Well played Big Three, I loathe you all even more now, congratulations on making that happen.

Feeling more frustrated than I ever have been before, I shook Aladdin furiously, trying to wake him up. We needed to find a way out of this situation!

Aladdin came out of it, after the seemingly millionth shake. "Finally!" I groaned in frustration, hugging Aladdin.

"Whoa now Ariel!" He chuckled, pushing me off. I blushed and scolded myself, he had a wife, duh! "Sorry I just got really excited..." He squinted his eyes as if just realizing the sun, and tilted his head to one side quizzically.

"Why would you be happy, we're in the middle of nowhere!" He looked around, using his hand as a visor.

"Right, that..." I muttered, scooping up the dry sand and letting it rush in between my fingers. "Yeah that teensy little detail." He said, using his arms to enunciate each word .I'm pretty sure panic was beginning to set in.

"Calm down, we will find a way out of this now let's shake sleeping beauty back to conscious." Just as I said that, Aurora popped her head up, hair flying everywhere.

"What about sleeping beauty?" She asked crossly, and I giggled. "Nothing Aurora." She looked at me, confused.

"Who's Aurora?" Her eyebrows were knit together and her mouth was frowning, the corners of her lips turned down. I rolled my eyes un lady like before answering.

"You, don't be silly." I tried laughing easily, but her confused expression stopped me. "No I'm Briar Rose, Ariel, you know this." She spoke slowly as if talking to a preschooler.

"No you're Aurora!" I argued. She laughed, and Aladdin started laughing too. "What?" I asked, cross with both of them. Aurora smiled gently at me and patted my knee before getting up, not even bothering to say anything.

"Come on, the heats getting to you." Aladdin snickered, getting up as well. "Hey how'd we get here anyways?" Aurora mumbled, scratching her head.

"Hello, the Big Three did this!" The heat was getting to them obviously, not me. Aurora wrinkled her nose in disbelief and, yes, confusion. Aladdin looked at me with-oh no-worried eyes.

"Who?" They questioned at the same time. Wait... That must have had their menories erased by the...

The Big Three.

My hand flew to my mouth in realization, they didn't knowing anything. Wait did they remember their true loves?

"Hey Au- ahem, Briar Rose, how's Phillip?" I asked. She smiled gently, patting my head, talking to me like i was a preschooler again.

"Honey, I don't know any Phillip." She said the name in a weird way, her voice exaggerating his name as she used air quotes. That can't be good. Now Aladdin's turn.

"And Aladdin, how's Jasmine?" I tried smiling brightly at him, even though I was getting frightened. He scoffed, crossing his arms.

"Don't know any Jasmine. Isn't she some kind of a queen or something? Anyways, lets look for a palm tree or something, I'm burning." He signaled for me and Aurora to follow, and we both did, but my moves were robot like and dull.

They didn't even know about their true love! Something in me was happy about it, Aladdin could be mine, but that was horrible to think. The dominant side of me was terrified. I now had two naive disney characters with me in the middle of a desert, and we were all alone. I felt tears spring back into my eyes.

The liquid that pooled in my eyes made me feel slightly better, I wasn't in a place with no water at all. That comforted me for some reason. Guess even when you take the mermaid out of the ocean, you can't take the ocean out of the mermaid.

Ocean... Mermaid... Dad. Oh no. He could be in deep peril right now! Once again, for the umpteenth times I had let my family slip out of my mind. I was so selfish.

"Aur- I mean Briar, do you have a mirror?" I tapped on Auroras shoulder and asked her that as she spun around. "Sure, Belle gave me one! Check yourself our darling!" With that unusual Lottie like comment, she handed me the mirror.

"Show me daddy." I commanded, and soon the mirror became clear and showed an image of my father. He held a glowing trident in his hands and he looked like he was about to blow.

Suddenly he realized I could see him. His expression immediately morphed into a somewhat calm face, but he still seemed unsettled.

"Daddy what's wrong?" I got straight to the point, and he chuckled softly.

"No hello?" He scolded teasingly, but I didn't crack a grin.

"All right, dear, I should tell you," he took a deep breath, as if he was going to give bad news. I already knew what it would be, but I was still dreading the answer.

"We are at war with Ursula."

"What?" I feigned as much surprise as possible, and my gullible daddy fell for it. He nodded solemnly before opening his mouth to speak.

"It's bad my little angelfish, but we will make it, we are strong! Please tell your Eric to command all ships nt to sail. The oceans will get rough." I gulped, no telling him. Oops.

"Okay." I agreed. Looks like in three days time, I'd have to make the dreaded call. To Eric.

"Daddy is that Ariel?" I heard a voice call out in the background, and I saw my fathers head nod. "I must go sweetie, but Attina wants to talk to you! Bye honey, I love you!"

"I love you too daddy." And then he swam away, looking ready for battle. I bit my nails, scared. Not just because of the attack on the ocean but because now I had to talk to Attina.

"Spill it." She growled through clenched teeth, her hands on her hips. I gulped, she went straight to the point. Then it all came out, I was a blubbering mess as I explained the whole situation.

"And then I saw him kissing Mara, so we 'broke up' I guess." I wailed in anguish, finishing my story after a solid minute of spilling. I told her everything, including the Big Threes attack.

"Aw, honey!" She cooed, trying to make me feel better. "Boys are jerks, I know you're busy saving the world and all, so I'll tell him to keep his ships safe. You call me in three days, okay?" I nodded as she spoke, and she waved and blew me a kiss before the image faded.

I handed Aurora her mirror back, and she grabbed it thanking me. I mumbled a 'you're welcome'. "So mind telling us why we are in a desert Ariel?" Aladdin pondered, but I was too annoyed to refresh his lost memory.

"Just keep walking." I practically shouted, and he quietly walked, as did Aurora, who was surprised by my outburst. It must have been another hour of endless walking in the painful heat, when just as my legs were about to collapse, Aurora spotted something.

"Look a kingdom!" She exclaimed with glee, and sure enough, in the distance lay a beautiful city.
