Dress Code

Okay so the first week of school was not terrible, but I do have some things to say about this new school.  Dress code.

We are not aloud to wear any sort of tank top, our shoulders must always be covered, our shorts must be no shorter than four inches above the knee, we are not aloud to wear bandanas or headbands, our shirts are not aloud to have any sort of bad lingo on it such as the confederate flag, and we are not aloud to wear leggings, yoga pants, or tights.

Okay, so they just excluded like half of my wardrobe. I have to wear jeans basically all year long, because all of my shorts stop it either mid thigh or a little more than four inches. I have long legs. I'm tall, so there is hardly any kind of shorts i could wear that would be four inches above my knee. I have a lot of basketball shorts, but there is no way to make black basketball shorts go with a nice blouse.

The shorts and shirt thing doesn't really bother me much. I don't like wearing shorts much anyways, and most shirts I wear are either long sleeved, covered by a hoodie, or short sleeves that cover my shoulders. I just don't understand why we would need to cover our shoulders. Shoulders are not sexual in any sort of way.

The schools need to stop punishing girls for the boys' immaturity. The schools have the power to raise our spirits up and to make us comfortable in our bodies, but instead they are telling us to hide our bodies. They are teaching us that when we show skin we have consequences. They are teaching us that showing any skin is wrong.

The schools need to tell the boys to keep it in their pants, and let the girls wear what they please. Even if that means showing a little skin.

Girls are not sexual objects. We are not here for boys' entertainment. We are human beings, and we deserve the same rights as males. The boys at my school basically have no dress code, and that makes me upset. Dress code is only really centered around the girls.

If we wear something against dress code, we either get detention, and in school suspension, or we get sent home. Just for wearing what we are comfortable in. That's crap! Let me wear what I please, because it is not your choice as to what I wear. Its mine.

Don't even get me started on cheerleaders. They can wear the SCHOOL ASSIGNED UNIFORMS to school, and they are literally skirts that come to an inch longer than underwear, and small, tight t-shirts. How can they wear that, when I cant even wear yoga pants?

If they are going to make a dress code, make it for everyone. I am tired of feeling like I am the bottom of the school because I am in band, and not cheer leading. Cheerleaders get to wear what they want, and everyone else gets punished. Tell me how is that fair? Make the dress code equal, or don't make it at all.
