the sun will come up tomorrow
but not for those who died today
and there are no magic words to bring them back
that anyone could say
life will go on tomorrow
but not the same as yesterday

on this day
parents lost children
children lost parents
wives lost husbands
and husbands lost wives
friends lost friends
family lost family
we lost heroes
New York lost everything
and the U.S. was at a complete stop
we were scared
we were worried
frantically calling family and friends
scared that something else may happen
confused
the terrorists took lives
they took hearts
and they took souls
but you know what they didn't take?
our spirits
we will stand strong
the United States of America
its in our name
we are United
we will never forget
