The next morning Emily and Sam wanted to go on another run, since last time we picked up a human being and didnt get any food or weapons. Dan tagged along with us this time, making sure that we were all safe.
We grabbed everything we needed before we took off. This time, heading into the other direction towards the small corner store at the end of the street. We drew closer, and closer to the store when we all heard some screams come from inside.
"Great, more people." Emily rolled her eyes.
Another noise seemed to catch my attention. It sounded like someone was eating a very 'nutrious' meal. When we turned around the corner, to see what it was, we were caught off guard.
"Here, have a taste!" The old man asked as specks of human blood was spraying off of his lips.
He held up a human organ to our face, insisting that we take a bite.
"No thank you." I said as I shoved it out of my face.
His character seemed shady, obviously he went crazy, hes been eating other humans!
He stood about 5'10" and wore a long old beat up black cardigan that needed a hood wash. The clothes underneath it were not that appealing. Holes and tears spreaded across his shirt and pants, even his shoes had holes and some toes were sticking out.
He then gave me an evil smile before he lunged at me, grabbing a hold onto my ankles. He threw me down to the floor as I thrashed at him widely, trying to make his grip harder to hold onto. Dan rushed over to rescue me, grabbing my arms he helped me escape and stand back up on my own two feet.
"What are you doing! Are you insane!" Dan yelled out angrily.
The old man started to laugh violently, soon his laugh turned into a cough as he settled down and continued eating the rest of his organs in peace.
Slowly, we all made our way to the front of the store. As soon as we entered someone ran past us. People were running around like crazy in here, trying to find food and supplies.
I have never seen so many people in one place since this world was torn to pieces.
Everyone looked around the small store, then back at each other. If we wanted supplies we would have to run for them before anyone else.
We slid over counter tops, grabbing whatever we could and stuffing it into our bags. I grabbed a first aid kit that was behind the cash register, while Emily and Sam both headed towards the canned food aisle.
I didnt see where Dan went though.
After grabbing a bunch of first aid stuff, I looked for Dan and the girls but found no sign of them.
"Em?!" I called out hoping to get a response.
Nothing.
My eyes wondered around the store, looking for the canned food aisle. When I finally caught a glimpse of it I sprinted down aisles, and pushed some people out of the way.
Nothing, when I got there. They were gone.
"Megan!" I heard someone call out my name. It sounded like it was coming from out back.
I didnt even think about it first, my legs carried me all the way to the door.
"Megan! Over here! Help!" Samantha was fighting with the old man that was out back for a can of peaches.
"Little girl, if I dont get this canned food. I'll eat you instead."
Samantha looked worried but she didnt let go.
My heart was racing as my face scrunched up, watching the weird old mad fight fir the peaches.
"Just let him have it Sam." I spoke out slowly.
She looked at me like I was crazy but eventually just let go. He feel backwards, and in a blink of an eye he was gone.
"You alright?" I asked Smidge.
She nodded her head, "That was the last can of peaches though." He soft voice answered sadly. "I really like peaches."
I couldnt help but smile at the way her voice was always quiet and lovely to hear.
"Dude, dont worry about them. We'll find more another day. We have to find Emily and Dan."
