Karlie's P.O.V

"Taylor, where's Allie?" I call from the kitchen as I notice the absent toddler. Taylor comes rushing into the kitchen. "What do you mean Karlie, I left her with you. You said you had her." Panic crosses Taylor's face as I look around me. "Well, she's not here." I gesture to the kitchen as Taylor wanders around also noticing the absent toddler. "Allie?" she calls. I glance around seeing all the cupboards shut and everything. "Maybe she went to the lounge?" I question. Taylor looks at me.

"Karlie, I think I would notice if our baby crawled past me, plus Olivia is on the couch so if Allie saw me and Olivia she would have come to me. Are you sure she's not here?" I nod agreeing with her, one thing Taylor is not is an unobservant mother. She loves Allie to death. Suddenly I hear a crash from the lounge followed by loud crying. Looking at Taylor we both sprint for the lounge and freeze at the couch. Allie is sitting on the ground with tears streaming down her face and I grimace as I notice the red line that also accompanies it. "Shit Taylor!" I squeal as I rush towards Allie and glance back at Taylor who is frozen looking at Allie. "Taylor!" I yell again as she snaps out of it. "Call security." She nods and grabs her phone and calls. Several seconds later she says. "We gotta go. They're waiting." I nod and quickly go to pick Allie up knowing Taylor isn't a fan of blood that's not her own but Allie won't let me. She keeps pulling away and is focused on Taylor. Sighing I look at Taylor. "Babe, you have to get her she won't let me." I expect Taylor to say no but instead she rushes over and throws a jacket at me and scoops up Allie with no hesitation and when Allie buries her face in Taylor's neck getting blood on it there is no concern. I internally thank the lucky stars that no one is freaking out and as we quickly rush out the door with me holding Allie's blanket so we can cover her from the falling snow everything begins to slow down and we relax a little bit especially since Allie is still breathing which is a good thing. I watch Taylor take a deep breath as Allie nestles into her once more. "You alright baby?" I question placing my hand on her knee. "Y-yeah I think so. I just, am I a terrible mother?" my eyes nearly bulge out of my head.
"Are you serious right now?" I question her in astonishment. She nods her head. "You are a wonderful mother. The best of the best, why?" She looks down at Allie who has actually fallen asleep. One hand holding Taylor's top. "That is why..." I look down and back at her questioning her words. "Taylor, children have accidents all the time. You know that." She heaves and nods.
"But I should be preventing them. I'm her mother." I rub my hand over her knee.
"I'm her mother too Taylor and it's my fault because I didn't notice she was missing. It's not your fault. It was an accident." Taylor doesn't answer me and instead looks out at New York traffic, which is busy because it is peak flow time.

A few hours pass as doctors wander in and out of Allie's room at the hospital. We are waiting for her x-ray results to see if she fractured her skull. The doctors have already stitched up her hairline where she must have hit it on the coffee table or something considering we don't know what happened. Taylor is still not believing that it could happen to anyone and even now as Allie is beginning to develop a black eye it makes her guilt worse. The one thing I will always admire about Taylor is her knowledge of what the right thing to do is but now her knowledge is flawed, every child falls and breaks a bone or gets cut it's a kid thing but Taylor feels guilty and I don't know how to make it disappear. She hasn't left Allie's side since we got here and is trying to make it seem that Allie doesn't want to let her go which was true for the first hour but with Allie now asleep in her bed and Taylor in the chair next to the bed it isn't true. "Taylor, come on take a walk with me?" I question but Taylor turns and looks at me. "We can't leave her Karlie, she's hurt."
"She's asleep..." I reply back but it does nothing to shift her from her seat so I stand and take my phone outside and make a call. 'Hopefully this fixes it all.' I sigh as I make my way back inside just as Dr Avery makes her way into the room. I watch Taylor sit up straight. "Okay guys so here's what's up. Allie has a slight hairline fracture on her skull but it's not from this injury." I look at her.
"What?" Taylor questions from her seat. "Where's it from?" Dr Avery takes a breath.
"It's documented that it was found when you brought her in a year ago Taylor..." My mind clogs, 'a year ago?' "But this is the first time she's been admitted her." I state as I look at Taylor who looks as shocked as me. Dr Avery sighs. "No it's not guys. She was admitted the night Taylor found her. She suffered from exposure to cold but it was light, just blue lips because Taylor warmed her up. Suddenly it hits me, 'oh shit' I think as I look at Taylor who seems to realise the same thing. We both look at Allie as Dr Avery says, "You're both aware that it's been a year since you adopted her, right?" Taylor and I shake our heads. "No, I think we forgot." I expect her to yell at us but she laughs.
"Oh well, you can pretend you did. Allie has to stay in overnight so you guys have to go home in half an hour. A nurse will sit with Allie." Taylor looks like she is about to freak out when Dr Avery says. "We will call if anything goes wrong, relax Taylor." I see Taylor relax which relaxes me. "See you both tomorrow after 10.00am." We nod and she leaves as Taylor walks to me and whispers into my ear. "I'm sorry for getting mad Karlie, you were right. Just an accident and I love you." I smile and say I love her too and before long nurse Waverly arrives to take our place. We smile and place kisses on Allie's face as she sleeps peacefully with her blanket over her. Waverly knows to call if there is an issue but Allie is pretty chill for a baby.
