"my lord?" the blonde walked through the doors of their manor.

"yes, draco?" the raven glanced up from the desk to look at the man in front of him.

"you summoned me?" draco shifted his weight between his feet as he stood.

harry potter never summons people unless he wants to see them personally. draco was the only one who had ever heard potter's voice and seen his face. malfoy was the dark lord's favorite, after all. harry took the position from tom riddle when he showed weakness in front of the death eaters. potter was always one step ahead on tom, anyway. they had a bit of a fling before the raven met draco. malfoy was always jealous of the riddle boy, but he never let it show.

"green looks better on you." harry caught a glance of the red tie draco threw on.

"it's your tie from school, harry. i figured you'd give me attention if i stole your clothes." malfoy pouted as he took a seat on harry's desk.

"you want attention?" potter cocked an eyebrow.

draco nodded and crossed his legs when he sat down. harry stared into draco's blue eyes. he knew he'd been neglecting the boy a bit with the responsibilities he had and everything he needed to fix when he took the death eaters from tom. riddle had fucked many things up and everyone was looking to potter to fix and improve them. draco tried to help him sort through the nonsense, but harry didn't want the blonde to see what riddle had done. sure, draco worked for tom, but there were things malfoy didn't know and harry would make damn sure to try and keep his love from seeing that.

harry slid his hand over draco's thigh, prompting the boy to uncross his legs. he did. potter rested both hands on malfoy's legs. the blonde's face flushed as he felt the raven's grip tightened as his hands moved up his legs. harry stood in between draco's legs and lifted the blonde's chin with his hand. draco's eyes were dark and full of lust.

"did you want something from me?" harry asked.

"please." draco's whispered.

"such good manners, dray." potter pet malfoy's head.

"only for you." malfoy locked eyes with the raven.

harry sat back down in his chair and pat his lap for draco to sit. the blonde smiled and gracefully slid off the desk and into potter's lap. malfoy rested his head on the dark lord's shoulder and smiled. potter rubbed a hand over draco's back while looking over documents and journals tom riddle left behind.

they stayed like that for awhile until there was a knock at the door. no one ever dared to knock on potter's office door unless they had a death wish or there was a dire emergency. even then, they never actually spoke to harry. draco took care of most of them, but potter would also conjure something that would answer for him if malfoy was taking care of other duties. malfoy got up, fixed himself up and straightened his clothes before answering the door. it was his aunt. she wanted to visit with potter to discuss the meeting taking place that night.

"the dark lord is not available right now. all questions and further comments about tonight's meeting are to be held until then." draco's voice was cold.

"draco, darling, you don't speak for potter. he isn't the true dark lord, tom riddle always has been and always will be. whatever that gryffindor boy thinks he's doing at riddle's desk is child's play. the real dark lord will return." bellatrix crossed her arms over her chest.

"his toy, i presume?" harry's voice came from behind draco.

"you will show me some respect! you are not fit for the title, you are merely a child. tom riddle's had his name down since he was born. i am his most loyal and unwavering supporter!" bellatrix barged into his office.

"i've had my name written in stone for decades, bellatrix, this isn't a competition. i don't care what tom's done in here, nor do i care what he's up to now. he was overruled by me for the weakness he showed while in this position. you are more than welcome to invite him back to take his office, his position, his rightful spot back. but i must warn you. be careful where your loyalties lie. now, get the hell out of my office." harry spoke dangerously low, never breaking eye contact.

bellatrix rolled her eyes but left without another word. harry knew tom would come back one day. he knew the riddle boy would try to take everything back. potter wasn't an idiot; he did think things through, unlike tom. riddle was oh so naive to think himself untouchable. draco shut the door after his aunt left and slowly turned to face harry again. the blonde wasn't sure what to say in that moment. harry felt the room shift with draco's emotions.

"is this about the fling tom and i had in school?" harry leant back against his desk and crossed his arms over his chest.

"no. you're with me now. why would i be worried about someone from your past?" draco scoffed.

"jealousy doesn't suit you, draco. tom ended things on his own terms. i was heartbroken, but i got over it. if i wanted to go back to him, i would have tracked him down by now. you're getting awfully possessive, though." harry glanced at malfoy, catching the hurt in his eyes.

"we've never defined anything, draco. i told you when the switch happened that i would never show the same weakness that riddle did with bellatrix. you remember that, yes?" potter sighed and sat down at his desk.

"loving someone isn't a weakness, harry. there's power behind it. you had it with the golden trio, with ginny, with the weasley twins, with tom. that's how you overruled him. they helped you and you abandoned them. you're just like riddle." draco's eyes were red as he left the office and slammed the door on the way out.

you're just like riddle.

that's not something you want to hear after overthrowing someone.

harry sat at his desk for hours. he didn't move, didn't file through anymore paperwork, he just stared at the door. he knew draco was right. as much as he hated to deny it, harry was slowly turning into the exact thing he wanted to avoid. was it because he loved draco? or was he still in love with tom and being a bitter ex? he didn't know, but he needed to figure it out. there was only person he knew who could help him. harry picked up the phone and dialed her number.

"mione?" harry prompted.

"hi harry. never thought i'd hear from you again. what do you need?" hermione's voice was cold.

"i think i fucked up and i don't know how to fix it." potter tried to stay collected.

"he left, didn't he?" granger sighed.

"yea. yea, he's gone. he said i'm just like tom.

"you're turning out just like him, yes, but it doesn't have to end that way. tom not showing emotion, not showing that he cared about the people who were loyal to him, was what led to his downfall. you overtook him because of us, harry. because you had people you loved and that loved you." granger sounded tired.

"i realize that now. i just don't know if i love draco or if this is all because i'm still in love with tom. i don't know what to do." the raven chuckled dryly.

hermione and harry spent hours on the phone. she helped him come to the realization that draco was a rebound. he may have had some kind of feelings for him, but he wasn't in love with the blonde. harry needed to let draco go. he needed to let malfoy move on and be with someone who actually loved and wanted to be with him. harry agreed with hermione. he agreed that he loved tom, that draco was nice but not what he wanted, that he needed to be a better leader than riddle was.

harry's heart nearly jumped from his chest when his phone lit up with tom's name.

we need to talk.

shit.
