wendy never knew that peter had fallen for another. sure he was distant recently, but she thought it was because he had been busy with the lost boys. felix and devin knew though. they knew all about the runaway girl who left her family. she hated them, wanted nothing to do with them anymore. peter made her an offer she couldn't refuse.
the girl's name alone was beautiful to pan. she was called aurora. the day peter found her was weird. all the lost boys were gathered around her, trying to convince the girl to go back to wherever she came from before pan discovered her. he overheard the boys and decided to check it out for himself. her eyes were the thing that captivated him the most. they were the most beautiful shade of violet he'd ever seen. she wouldn't speak to anyone but felix at that point, him being the only one who had shown her any kindness.
it took a little bit for aurora to trust peter, but once she did, she loved to talk to him. he spoke to her with a kindness that she'd never experienced before. her family always screamed at her for everything. they never treated her like a person, more like a maid for them to boss around. aurora really liked peter, but she'd never tell him that. she knew about wendy from the stories she heard. wendy sounded like a protective person.
"hey princess. the boys and i are about to play some games. do you wanna join us?" pan smiled at her.
she shook her head. words weren't what she felt like using today. peter noticed and told the boys to go ahead, he'd catch up later. aurora shook her head at the boy. pan sat her down on a log to try and talk to her. she just wasn't having it, so he tried a different approach. he signed things to her instead and her face lit up almost instantly. no one in her family knew sign, nor would they ever learn. aurora was so excited to finally have more than one way to communicate with someone.
"there's that smile, darling." he signed.
they continued that for awhile until devin came to ask if peter was still coming. he said he'd be there in a minute. after signing his goodbyes to her, he left to follow the boys. wendy came out of the hut she was staying in and saw aurora sitting down. she went over to talk to the new girl. wendy advised her not to talk to peter anymore. pan was hers, not aurora's and he'd never like the new girl as he did wendy. aurora didn't say anything back, only sitting and drawing in the dirt. wendy rolled her eyes and walked back to her hut to wait for peter.
hours later, the boys returned. they were all tired and ready for bed. peter saw aurora sitting in the same place, still drawing things in the dirt. he tried to sign to her but noticed that she wasn't in the mood. he told the girl that he'd be right back and left to check on wendy. felix sat next to aurora, asking what was going on. she was bubbly a little while ago.
"wendy. she told me to stay away from peter." she whispered.
"don't listen to her. pan only keeps her here because of her brothers. they're doing a job for him and she's damage control." felix explains.
"it doesn't matter anyways." the girl shrugged.
"why not?" he wondered.
"nothing can ever come of it, felix. i've only been here a week. he'd never see me that way." her voice wavered.
felix and aurora continued to talk until she bid him goodnight. the girl headed deeper into the forest, wanting to take a walk to clear her head. no one knew where she was as she never said anything. felix sent a few lost boys out to find her when she hadn't come back in over three hours. peter was still talking to wendy so he didn't know anything.
"go find her, then! pan will kill all of us if he finds out!" felix screams, grabbing peter's attention.
"if i find out what?" peter immediately left wendy and went straight to felix.
"aurora went into the woods. it's been three hours now and she hasn't come back." felix sighed in defeat.
"what?!" pan's eyes almost bulged outside of his head.
peter ran into the woods. he knew the island like the back of his hand and he was going to find the girl he'd grown very fond over. there was a clearing by the waterfall where he'd go sit sometimes when he needed time to himself. pan hoped that she would be there, but she wasn't. aurora had been missing for five hours now. no one had seen even a glimpse of the girl since she left the campsite. peter searched everywhere for her. there was only one spot he never checked and that was baelfire's old cave.
"you'd be a great hider for hide and seek, pretty girl." peter whispered when he found her in the cave.
"hi peter." she wouldn't look at him, lying down and looking at the stars.
"hi love. why're you hiding from me?" he lied down next to her on the floor.
aurora shrugged. she didn't really want to get into it, nor did she want to get wendy in trouble. felix told her to come clean with him. he'd never kill wendy or cause her harm if he found out. her brothers were doing jobs for the boy and he needed her alive.
"wendy?" pan guessed.
"i'm sorry, peter, i didn't want you to know. she loves you." she finally looked at him.
"i don't love her, darling. she's a means to an end. i want you." he sat up and pulled her into his lap.
aurora went to say something but he cut her off with a kiss. she immediately kissed him back, smiling into it. he pulled away first and smiled back. he tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and kissed her nose. pan knew he was falling for the girl, but he wasn't mad about it. they stayed in the cave for awhile. peter smiled when he saw aurora had fallen asleep. he picked her up and carried her back to camp.
"you found her!" devin smiled.
"she's a little sleepy, i'll take her to the hut. tell wendy her brothers won't be hearing from her for awhile." pan nodded to felix and devin before leaving.
