Reader's POV

It was dark. Not the scary kind of darkness, but a peaceful one. It was warm, almost comforting. There was no pain, cold floor, chains around my wrists and the feeling that your life is getting sucked out of you.

It felt like I was floating somewhere with no beginning and no end. I couldn't tell if my eyes were open or closed and I couldn't even feel my own body. Just that warmth sensation lingering around.

Where... am I?

I tried moving my fingers. Nothing. My legs wouldn't move either no matter how hard I tried. It felt like I was trapped inside my own mind. I can't even hear my own voice or feel any Nen throughout my body.

Right, my Nen got sucked out

I wanted to panic, maybe I should have panicked. Instead, I simply drifted. This must be the afterlife they were talking about. Maybe I was dead and this was the punishment for it. I do hope the Spiders made Lucien's life a living hell.

Maybe Feitan would miss me once and  for all. Feitan's name somehow made my heart ache, as if it's yearning for him. He had saved me more than I can count. He may be a selfless jerk, but he has a good heart.

Shalnark told me that maybe I love him. Maybe... but I should've asked him for more information before I left the world.

I was in this place for days, weeks, maybe even months. Time didn't exist here and the only thing that reminded me I wasn't alone, was a presence.

For some reason, I feel like someone was always nearby. I couldn't see them nor touch them, but  I knew they were there everyday I'm in this endless darkness.

I didn't know who it was or what it was but strangely, their presence made me feel safe. And then one day, for the first time that I've been here, I heard a voice.

"Shal still annoying." The voice was quiet, almost awkward. As if the person doesn't know what he was talking about.

I frowned.

Who...?

"...Phinks cheated and Machi slapped him."

For some reason, I wanted to laugh. The stories were short and sometimes they didn't even make sense, but every day the same voice returned.

"Nobunaga lost again."

"Bonolenov scare nurse."

"Shizuku forgot toothbrush."

"Shal talk too much."

I didn't know why, but I always looked forward to hearing those little stories. They made the endless darkness feel... less lonely.

Sometimes the voice didn't tell stories. Instead, it simply sat with me. I could feel it, waiting patiently and never leaving.

I wanted to ask who they were. I wanted to tell them I could hear them. But no matter how hard I tried, no words came out. Eventually, the stories changed.

"Flowers died, bought new."

"Hospital food bad, but you complain if no eat."

Then a long pause after that.

"I... miss you complaining."

My chest tightened. That voice, why did it sound so... sad? Why did it feel familiar? Like someone who's important to me but I couldn't put my finger on who it was.

I wanted to answer, I wanted to tell them I was listening and is trying so hard to response. But my body still wouldn't move.

The voice grew quieter over time, almost like it was becoming tired.

"Wake up." A long silence. "Need partner, need you."

Then, I felt the darkness continued to pull me deeper. As if separating me from that presence that I found comfort it.

No...

Please...

Don't leave!

I was alone again, but this time, I didn't feel any warmth or any presence. Then my body started glowing, like a star losing its own light. I watched as the light flickered, deciding whether to shine or not.

I tried holding on for as long as I can, wanting to feel that presence again. To hear their voice and to hear more stories. But the silence and the feeling of despair being in this place for a long time, I'd forgotten why am I still keeping the light on.

Maybe it's time to let go, whatever it is I have to let go

As I was about to surrender, I felt the presence coming back again. Then, for the first time in a long while, the silence broke.

"Thought I lost you." For some reason, the voice gave me hope again.

But the thought of being left alone for a long time in this endless darkness, scares me. Should I continue hoping, or should I just let it go?

For some reason, I felt like the person was hesitating. As if he was arguing with himself and I could almost imagine someone looking away in embarrassment. Maybe just my imagination?

Then, so quietly... I almost thought I imagined it.

"...I love you..."

...

...

...

My heart stopped. That voice, I knew that voice. It was Feitan! Without thinking, I reached toward the sound.

No, I threw everything I had toward it. This was the first time I felt strength throughout my body and I wasn't going to waste another time in this hell hole.

Please, wait for me...

I felt a sudden surge of force pulling me back, but I continued to push through.

Feitan... please, I need to see you

Soon, the darkness cracked. A thin beam of light spilled through. I widen my eyes and continued pushing through. Another light appeared, then another and soon, the warmth disappeared.

The smell of medicine slowly replaced it, the sound of machines echoed around me.

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

My eyelids felt impossibly heavy, but I forced them open.  Bright light burned my eyes, everything was blurry. I stared at the white ceiling, my eyes travelling to the flowers on the table.

Then slowly, I saw a blurry figure standing beside me. I tried to focus my vision and saw dark clothes, messy black hair, tired grey eyes staring back at me in shock.

Feitan...

He stood completely still, like he had forgotten how to breathe. His eyes widened just enough for anyone else to miss it.

Neither of us spoke. We simply stared at each other for a long moment before I gave him a weak smile.

"Hey." My voice was hoarse and came out barely above a whisper.

His eyes widened another fraction, as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"I... I heard you." The color seemed to drained from his face as he realized that I heard his confession.

"You said..." I couldn't help smiling a little more. "You love me."

For the first time since I'd met him, the infamous Feitan looked completely frozen. Like he'd rather fight the Queen of Chimera rather than answering that.

And somehow seeing him like that made waking up worth it.
