The first morning of our so-called mission felt... strange. There were no explosions, no enemies or any people trying to kill us. It was just the two of us plus the waves gently brushing against the shore outside the cabin.

I stretched my arms before stepping outside. The air was cool, carrying the scent of pine trees and the lake nearby. Sunlight reflected across the water like thousands of tiny diamonds. It was beautiful, too beautiful.

"I guess Boss really meant it." I muttered.

This wasn't a mission it was a vacation. I looked around until I spotted Feitan sitting on the dock. He had one leg hanging over the water while quietly watching the fish swim beneath him.

"Morning!" I beamed.

He glanced at me. "Morning."

"What are you doing?"

"Fishing."

I looked into the water and questioned his sanity.

"Without bait?"

"I... forgot."

I couldn't stop laughing and he glared at me.

"You've been sitting here this whole time without bait?"

"Fish stupid."

"They're not that stupid. They're not the one who forgot about the bait."

"Tch."

I crouched beside him.

"Move."

"Why."

"So I can show you how it's done because I actually brought the bait."

He reluctantly shifted a little. I attached fresh bait to the hook before handing the rod back to him.

"There."

"...thanks."

I quickly looked at him while checking if I have wax on my ear. Did... did Feitan really just said thanks? He immediately looked away when he noticed that I was staring into his soul.

"Stop look."

"Did you just... did you just say thanks?"

"Didn't."

"You absolutely did."

"Hallucinating, maybe still recovering." His ears turned the faintest shade of pink.

"Again with the hallucination excuse?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Tch."

Somehow, I found this side of Feitan cute. Eh, did I just thought of him as cute?

By noon we'd wandered deeper into the forest and find foods to eat. There were wild berries everywhere and I actually like the taste of it so I was collecting them.

A bunch was hanging from a branch that's within my reach. Still, I tried reaching for it while standing on my tiptoes.

"Almost there." I motivated myself even though I was struggling.

I tried one last attempt, but failed and I huff in disappointment. Without a warning, the branch lowered and I looked up and saw Feitan standing on the branch and stepping on it so I can reach it.

"Thank you." I smiled but then frowned at what he said.

"Fast."

"Why are you rushing me, sheesh. I was trying to be nice." I rolled my eyes and he scoff.

After collecting the berry, he jumped down beside me. I picked one berry and held it toward him.

"Here, try this." I offered and he stared at it.

"No."

"Come on, they're sweet." I frowned at his answer.

"No."

"Don't make me feed you." I warned and he turned around and started walking away. "Hey, come back here!"

I chased after him, still carrying the heavy basket of berries, and when I was near him I reached for his arm with bunch of berries in my hand, turned him around and smashed the berry on his face, completely forgetting that he was wearing a scarf.

And so the berry spread everywhere his face, tainting the white skull red. I could only imagine that behind that mask, he would look like a bloody mess.

"Oops..." I murmured and he glared at me. "Hey, in my defense this wouldn't have had happened if you accepted the berry in the first place."

Just when I thought that he would try to avenge himself, I prepared myself to run but stopped when Feitan removed his mask and revealed his tainted face. I couldn't help but laugh that I didn't noticed Feitan taking a bunch of berries in the basket and smeared it on my face.

"Hey!" I shouted and before I can fight back, he was already ten feet away from me. "Come back here!"

In the evening, we sat outside the cabin watching the sunset. The lake reflected the orange sky until it looked as though the whole world had caught fire.

Neither of us spoke, but the silence wasn't awkward either. It was comfortable and peaceful and somehow, my thoughts wandered to those three words I heard before waking up from the coma.

"I love you."

The words echoed inside my head and I felt my heart skipped a beat. I've always wondered if it was a dream, but I had heard them clearly before I opened my eyes.

Though the real question is, had he really meant them? Or did I just really imagined it and it was just a dream?

I glanced sideways at Feitan who was staring at the lake. If he did say those three words, how could someone who looked so calm have said something that made my heart race every time I remembered it?

"Feitan?"

"Hm."

"Can I ask you something?"

He looked at me and I felt my face heated up.

"Ask."

I opened my mouth, the question was right there but I couldn't say it out loud.

Do you really love me?

"Do you like this place?" I mentally slapped my face for being such a coward.

"Yes."

"Really?"

"Quiet, no Shal." I laughed at what he said.

"Wow, is that the only reason." I blurted out unknowingly.

"...And you..." He whispered but I didn't really heard it.

"I'm sorry, what was that?"  I questioned and he looked away.

"Nothing."

Maybe it was my imagination and maybe one day, I will be brave enough to ask about those three words he told me. For now, I'm happy staying beside him.
