"She's... she's gone." Tears started forming in Shalnark's eyes and collapsed on his knees. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect her."
For a moment Feitan didn't move and I thought that he hadn't understood what Shalnark was saying. Then his eyes slowly shifted toward the grave.
"No." Feitan's voice was quiet.
Shalnark swallowed, and I was invested in this theatre they were playing. Heck even Danchou looked like he was defeated. I think if it weren't for Chrollo, Feitan wouldn't had believed this nonsense.
"She was attacked while you were gone, I couldn't protect her in time." Shalnark said and Feitan's expression became completely blank.
"Liar." He stated.
"I'm not." Shalnark dropped his head on the ground.
Feitan looked at Chrollo to see if the leader of this group would protest. To my surprise, Chrollo was also crying. When Feitan realized that almost everyone was crying and no one was laughing, I saw how his knees almost buckled, as if the news finally got to him.
"You lying." He repeated and Shalnark clutched the ground.
"I wish I was." Shalnark's voice almost came out as a whisper.
Feitan walked toward the grave and nobody stopped him. His steps were slow and he stopped directly in front of the coffin. My heart had been pounding all this time as I watched Feitan's usual calmness getting replaced with something I've never seen before.
He reached for the lid of the coffin and I could see his hands trembling. When he opened it, he stared at my fake dead body for a long time.
"No..." His voice cracked slightly.
It was so faint that I almost didn't hear it.
"Y/n..." The way he called my name made my chest tightened.
It was as if he couldn't believe it and he was yearning for me. He looked completely lost and for the first time I'd known him, I finally saw a different side of him.
"I not say to you yet... but I love you..."
My heart skipped a beat, my eyes started burning and I pressed my hand over my mouth. I hadn't expected this, not even close.
"Y/n... please... come back... I make you favorite food. Just... come back. Still need to say I love you."
Feitan suddenly collapsed on his knees and I was overwhelmed with guilt for tricking him. My heart broke seeing him like this but one thing I know for sure, our feelings are mutual.
I stepped out from behind the tree, tears streaming down my eyes.
"Feitan..." I called his name and his eyes immediately snapped open.
He quickly turned around and his entire body froze.
I wiped my tears away. "Hi."
There was a moment of silence between us where he simply stared at me as if I were a ghost. Then his eyes narrowed as if he couldn't believe it and he slowly stood.
"Y/n?"
I gave him a nervous smile. "Surprise?"
He stared at me for a few moments more and I started to get nervous.
"Well, you see... this was technically my idea-" Before I can finish my words, Feitan suddenly appeared in front of me and hugged me.
It took me a while before I can process what just happened. I can feel Feitan's body trembling and he was hugging me as if he was afraid to lose me.
"I thought you dead..." He mumbled and I slowly wrapped my arms around him.
"I am here, I am alive." I reassured him and I couldn't stop my heart from pounding so loud.
When he pulled away, he removed his mask and crashed his lips into mine like there's no tomorrow. It hurts at first, but then he moved around softly and I melted into the kiss, forgetting that we were still surrounded by the other members.
"So, who actually died?" Shizuku suddenly asked and I pulled away from Feitan flustered.
No one actually told Shizuku the plan because they all know she would reveal it. They just said that someone died and we have to get everyone to pay respect and not make a noise for an hour.
"Well I guess I can finally retire from trying to get the two of you together." Shalnark stood from the ground and cracked his fingers. "Nice acting by the way Danchou, I think Feitan wouldn't had believed it if he didn't see your reaction."
"Actually I got a bug in my eye and I've been trying to remove it." Danchou replied and everyone started laughing.
One by one, they all left me and Feitan to have our own space.
"Don't forget to invite me at your wedding." Shalnark gave us a wink before disappearing from our sight.
"By the way Feitan, I love you too." I finally told him when we were the only ones left.
"I... really thought I'd lost you again." He told me while holding my hand. "First time it happened, I was sad. I don't want lose you ever again."
"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere." I told him and he pulled me into another kiss.
Who would've thought that I would end up with one of the most dangerous guy in the world? I guess love really moves in mysterious way.
