Chapter 1: Alex
I'm running. So fast I think it's impossible. The trees are flying past me. I notice I'm not alone. I turn to my right to see...*BUMP!
"Uggghhhhhh" I fell off my bed and hit my hard wood floor of my bedroom. I sit up rubbing my head. God do I hate that dream I have it almost every night and end up on the floor almost every morning. I look at my clock and see its 7:00 am. Time for another day of boring high school. I mean don't get me wrong I love it there you know seeing my friends and my boyfriend is fun but I always feel so... I don't know detached. Like my mind is one place but my physical body is in another.
I start to make my way to the bathroom, tripping over clothes and shoes that are scattered across my floor. Finally I reach the bathroom and turn the shower on scorching hot. When I get in it feels as if all my troubles melt away.
But then I get the familiar feeling that I always do when I start letting my mind drift... My parents. They died back when I was 14, about three years ago. I don't like talking about them ever really. Not even with my older brother, Allen. He's 24. We live together in our house. He is this big time lawyer in Hazleton. He drives almost 2 hours to get to work each day. I'm scared that if he gets a promotion he will want to move but I mean this is the house we grew up in. I feel closer to mom and dad here in our home town. I would never wanna leave. Luckily my thoughts are broken by Allen screaming up to me from downstairs.
"Alex! Breakfast is ready!" When I hear that my stomach immediately begins to rumble. I finish up showering and get out I quickly throw on a pair of dark skinny jeans, a tight long sleeve plain black top, and a colorful scarf. I run back into the bathroom, mirror still fogged from my shower, to get my makeup on and do my hair. I wipe my hand on the mirror to give me a view of myself. Dark brown hair and light brown eyes... Nothing special. I put a little mascara on and a little coverup. I throw my hair into a bun and attempt to sprint down the stairs.
I say attempt because on the last step I tripped and nearly killed myself if it hadn't been for Allen who caught me.
"Slow down squirt" laughing as he said it, "where's the fire?"
"No fire I'm..." Catching a scent of... Bacon. I don't even bother finishing the sentence I run over to the plate of bacon and begin to stuff it in my mouth.
"Woah... Small fry... Hey leave some for me!" Trying to grab the plate from me. I laugh, well almost choke since I had food in my mouth. "God it's like I live with an animal..."
"HEY!" I start playfully punching his back and messing up his hair.
"Ok ok I surrender!" He says putting his fingers in a little X. I back up and smile at him with pride. Then behind his head I get a glimpse of the time. 7:24.
"Shit! I'm gunna be late!"
"What? School doesn't start for another hour?" Allen says while he fixes his hair.
"I'm going in early for a quiz!" I scream as I am already halfway up the stairs. i begin brushing my teeth as I am trying to find all my books and stuff them in my bag. Oh wait soccer bag! I grab my bags and sprint down the stairs skipping the last 3 steps and fly through the door.
"Bye Allen!" SLAM! Oops... I always do that. Before Allen can come out and yell at me for the 100th time not to slam the door I get in my buggie and drive off towards school.
Driving here is gorgeous. We live in this small town in Pennsylvania called Kurtsberg. It's a quiet little place kind of hidden in the forest but its big enough to have its own school I guess. I am kind of wishing I was going hiking instead of going to school.
