Chapter 32: Alex

I am sprinting through the woods as fast I can. My breathing is scattered and far from steady.

I can hear Hunter's Dad catching up to me.

Running wasn't the best idea, but its all I have. I mean I can't fight him, i have no clue how to breathe in the form let alone fight. I have to push myself. Faster come on. Faster!

My legs are burning as I push myself to run harder. Hunter's Dad is still gaining.

Alex? Where are u going? I'm behind my dad catching up.

I don't know

I'm scared now, what if his dad catches me? Will he kill me?

Ahhh! He bit my tail! Man that hurt! Run faster Alex! Don't slow up!

Alex what happened? I'm almost there.

He bit my tail but I'm still ahead of him

Just hold on baby I'm coming

The trees are flying past me, but they seem somewhat familiar. I know where I'm going. I'm heading towards the cliff. I should be there within seconds. I have an idea I don't know if it will work but its worth a shoot.   I break the tree line and see the cliff, instead of stopping I speed up. I look across from the cliff and see the other side. I push of the very edge of the cliff and fly through the air. I barely make it to the other side. I struggle to get up and when I finally do I peer at the other side.

Hunter's Dad was on the other side, pacing back and forth, growling. I catch my breath, he wouldn't be able to make the jump. He doesn't have the momentum from running and he knows it. Apparently I was wrong.

Just as Hunter emerges from the woods, his father flings himself into the air, flying towards me. And missing by that much...

Hunter

DAD! NO!

I watch my father make the jump, but we both know he can't make it to the other side. He misses the edge and begins tumbling down the side of the cliff.

Im sorry son.

And he was gone. Disappearing into the mist below. His mind link destroyed when he vanished.

I fell empty. Hollow inside. I just watched my father fall to his death. I can't help but stare down into the abyss below.

Alex

Hunter is stiff as a rock. All I want to do is reach out and comfort him.

I begin felling cold. I can't help but feel guilty. He was chasing me. I jumped. It was my fault.

I did this to Hunter and his father. If it wasn't for me they would still be happy, and his dad would still be alive. I... I have to leave. I take off into the distance behind me.

I'm running faster and faster not looking back. I can't bear to look at my mate, after what just happened. I can't.

I am running for less then a minute, when I hear his deep voice in my mind.

Alex! Where are you going?!

I don't know where I'm going. I'm  getting away. It's better this way. It's better for you.
