The things people say inspire me. My father especially. It was the day of the third exam. Now with my summoning I could kick some butt.
But the prophecy held me back. Those dark words that the Toad had said made me worry all night. I couldn't sleep, couldn't think. If Seru was the one to die, I would die next to him. What power would I get? Who would I see who I never have before?
I couldn't focus on anything but the prophecy. Naruto could tell I was struggling with something when he made me breakfast that morning. I didn't tell him. I instead asked him.
"Shima mentioned Jiraiya." I murmured. Naruto stopped and whirled around to look at me. His eyes glinted a deep and dark sadness. "That book that you always have with you. That was his isn't it? He wrote it."
Naruto's eyes fell to the floor. "Yes. It was his. He never published it. It was too dear to his heart." He paused. "He believed in me. He never told me to give up only when I was hurt from Sasuke he told me to be rid of him. I didn't. I kept on believing in myself. Look where I am now! I am the 6th Hokage, I have a daughter and Sasuke is back. Nothing could get any better." He took his hand and placed it over my head as he rubbed my hair.
"Dad! I just combed it!" I yelled laughing as I shoved his arm. He grinned and handed me a cup of steaming tea.
"Kushina, I'm sorry I've held back so many answers from you. I should've told you everything sooner. Once the Chunin exams are over I will tell you everything that you have a question too. About mom."
"You say when you get drunk that you couldn't save her. How- what-"
"Not now Kushina. The time just isn't right. Let's get you ready for the third exam."
There he goes again. Avoiding the same question. I thought to myself. Maybe he was right. shrugged it off and went over to the Hokage's office with dad in tow.
I looked back behind me once in a while to see his back slumped and his hands in his orange pants. That same headband he had when he became a genin was weathered and beaten from the countless battles. His face wasn't even wrinkled. I slowed down so he could catch up and I reached up to wrap my arm around his shoulder. I gave him a cheeky grin and he smiled back.
Maybe things were turning out.
Inside the office was a large group of winners who had passed the 2nd test. I saw Nyen and waved. She smiled back. Naruto beckoned me into the crowd. I squeezed through the throng of people and stood next to the tall red haired girl. I looked back at dad to see him shaking a firm hand shake with another man. He had no eyebrows but dark eye liner. He had the same beril eyes that Nyen had. A red tattoo written in the corner of his left eye, Love. A large gourd strapped to his back. I knew instantly, Gaara. He was the same age as father and he looked younger. Maybe it was because of the eyebrows.
"Nyen! Its your dad!" I yelp. She smiles as she waves to her father.
"The one and only! So who do you think you'll verse?"
"Someone easy!" I retort. We both laugh.
"Oh look its your dad! It looks like he's gonna say something."
The tall blonde haired man steps up to the podium and pauses. "I welcome everyone for coming here today. We are doing something special for this years Chunin Exams. The winner of the whole tournament will not only become a Chunin but become a Jonin!" Everyone cheers excitedly. This didn't happen regularly. "If you beat your first opponent then you automatically become a Chunin. That is a new rule that the Elders and I have agreed with the rest of the Villages here today. Let's begin!"
The screams and shouts echo through the whole building. I smile. The prophecy gone from my mind.
The third exam of the Chunin Exams had begun.
