"I just wanted to apologize for how things went down last time." He said.
"It's okay, I guess. I mean, I understand why you reacted that way."
"I just want to know one thing, were you ever going to tell me?"
"Of course I was, but you never showed."
"What?" He seemed genuinely confused.
"You had planned to be back home by then. I waited and waited, Harry, but you never showed. Next thing I know you stop answering my calls, you change your number and moved on with your 'famous' life. You basically left me behind as soon as your dreams were coming true."
"I never meant to do that. I swear to you, Ari. I admit I may have gotten a little caught up with the fame and all that, but I swear I never meant to hurt and basically forget you."
"I want to believe you, trust me, I do. But it's gonna take a while. You broke my heart."
We both went silent for a while. Neither of us knew what to say next.
"How- How do you feel about me?"
I gave him a confused look, "What do you mean?"
"Do you- do you still love me?"
"Of course I still love you, Harry-"
"Okay, great! We can try to work this out. We can try to be a family. All three of us. We can-"
"No, Harry. We can't."
"Why not? You said you still love me?"
"And I do. You were my first friend here, my first love, you gave me the two most beautiful gifts anyone could ever give me. How can I not love you after that? But the thing is, I'm not in love with you."
"But- but we have kids together?"
"Yeah, we do. But they don't even know you, you don't know them. Hell, we don't even know each other anymore. People grow, they change."
To me, having a child or children with a person isn't a good enough reason to get back together. If you're unhappy, or in my case, the father barely finds out he even has children, there is no reason to stay together or rush things in order to be together.
With me and Harry, it was unplanned. Neither of us were even thinking of having children anytime soon. What were the chances that I got pregnant the first time I had sex. We used protection so neither of us thought that it might happen. But just because he found out we do, doesn't mean we should be together. I have been a single mother these past two and a half years, he can't just show up into their lives and expect everything to be fine. They may be young, but I'm sure they'll be at a least a bit confused. Harry's main concern shouldn't be trying to make us a family, it should be figuring out if he wants to stay in his kids life.
I'm not some evil person who would keep him from ever seeing his children. I have a heart. We were in love once, why would I purposely try to hurt him, now? If he wants to stay in the kids life, then we can arrange something. My children are my priority, and having a healthy relationship with their father is no big deal. They need that. They need a father figure. I have no right to take that away from them.
Harry looked a bit hurt when I turned down his idea, even though he had no right to be. I'm not just going to jump on him and accept him with open arms. We need to start things slow.
"Hey, why don't we try to be friends first?" I suggest.
"Friends?"
"Yeah. We are label mates after all."
"Oh yeah! Congratulations by the way!" It seemed like he was going to give me a hug but then stopped halfway. He then continued, "Can I, umm, hug you?"
"Umm, yeah. Sure. It's a friendly thing to do when you're happy for someone."
It was the first time we have hugged in over 2 years. It felt strange yet comforting. It felt familiar. Once we got in a comfortable hold someone banged the door open, making us flinch and pull back awkwardly.
"Woah. What was going on in here?" Asked Liam. To others, it might've seemed like we got caught in an act or got caught in a romantic hold, but how would I know what they think. I was about to answer him, but Harry beat me to it.
"Just two friends, giving each other a friendly hug is all." He said while giving both Liam and I a smile.
"Oh, really? So you're friends now?" Liam asked.
"Yeah, we are. And now this friend is going to go get something to eat because he is hungry. See you both later on this evening." He said, then exited the room.
Liam ticked his head to the side indicating that I walk with him. We walk down the stairs and all the way to the backyard in silence. I begin to walk towards Anne, to get Mia from her. I thought Liam would've went his own way, but instead had followed me. Once I got Mia in my embrace, and once Anne had walked away to look for my mom, Liam turned to me with a small smirk and said,
"So, you're friends, huh?"
"Oh, shut up will you?" I answered back jokingly.
"That's no way to speak around your daughter missy. Come on Mia, come with Uncle Liam until your mummy learns to control her potty mouth today." He said playfully, taking Mia out of my arms. She had voluntarily stretched out to him anyways.
"Liam are you serious?"
"Of course, I am. Who knows, maybe while I watch her you'll have time to socialize with a friend."
I glared at him playfully but didn't respond.
"Oh what do you know, your friend is coming towards your table with two plates of food. How nice is your friend to get a plate for you. Hope you two friends have a friendly conversation."
I started laughing so hard. My best friend is a complete dork.
Enjoy x
