(à) Chapter 9 (ß)

The guys and I had had a ball.

And even as the night progressed, none of them asked me about my sudden appearance. Mr. Blackbourne, when he left, took most of them with him. Even when some-cough Gabriel-had whined about having to leave me with Nathan and Silas, Mr. Blackbourne had simply reminded him he had some Academy homework.

Have I mentioned how much I hated their Academy silent conversation stuff?

We woke about 6 a.m. That's sun up 6. Actually that's sun barely up 6. You can understand that I may have whacked the adorable red head with a pillow when he woke me up with a smile and way too cheerful "Good morning!"

I groaned but got up when it appeared Nathan was not leaving me to sleep longer.

"Right, I'm not Peanut, now up and at em soldier! A day at Ashley Waters awaits. We've got to go in combat ready and all that good stuff." I glared at him but it didn't affect his happy smile as he winked at me and bounced making the rest of the bed-and me-rise and flop back down.

I threw the covers away and stood, stretching, relishing that burn. Before everything from yesterday came rushing back at me and I tried to dive back under the covers.

I couldn't believe I'd come here and actually asked to stay the night. And after I'd treated them so horribly yesterday! It's a wonder they didn't all slam the door in my face and lock it. Twice.

Nathan's chuckle was low and gave me a shiver along with the finger he used to trace up my forearm. All of a sudden, he ripped the sheet away while I was stuck on the stupid shiver.

We played tug of war with the sheet until a deep rumbly voice joined in with the laughter. "Nathan and Aggele playing in the sheets. Why didn't you call and in-vite-me," he spoke-sang.

Heat suffused my cheeks when I realized he was re-working the KISSING rhyme. Immediately, I released my end of the sheet and would've laughed if Nathan hadn't managed to catch himself before hitting the floor. He'd have been feeling that in his rump all day....then again, he did have a nice-

Clearing my throat, I avoided their gazes as I made my way to the door. "Gottachangeforschool.Seeyouthere," or something like that sped out of my mouth.

I heard them speaking but didn't pick up any words as I was making my way out of the door.

Instead of putting up with Marisa and her questions of why I had on a huge t-shirt (I had to borrow North's last night because I forgot to take any extra clothing for myself), I climbed the roof to my window. Inside, I could see Marie still passed out in her bed and wondered how she ever fared at a boarding school.

If I was wide awake, she could be too. I half wanted to slam the window shut once I was in, waking her up quite abruptly, but the other half reminded me that I would have to hear her voice that much quicker too. The other half won.

So I tip toed and barely closed the window. Grabbing my uniform, I found myself grabbing a kind of transparent white skirt--but not truly; I wasn't that 'loose'--and a plain black shirt. It was white and black so I dared Hendricks to say anything about it.
