Amber steps into the hall way by her locker. It’s not as crowded as she expected it to be. There are only a few girls by a locker giggling.

Amber saw Janelle go this way, and she’s sure of it. She has been following her for about half an hour now, and for some reason, she hasn’t left the school yet.

The first thing Amber did once class ended was follow Janelle into the girl’s locker room down on the main floor, and left her stuff there so she wouldn’t have to carry it around.

She then followed Janelle into the bathroom and hid in the stall as Janelle talked to someone, probably Suzy because she recognized the blond curled hair through the cracks of the stall. She couldn’t hear what they were saying because their voices were muffled, and they were whispering, but she did make out that Suzy said something about the girls following them around and to watch out.

The last place she followed Janelle to was the cafeteria, where Janelle walked around for a while doing nothing in particular.

Where are you Janelle? Amber thinks looking around, tucking in her lime green shirt into her dark blue jeans. She lost her on her way over into the hallways when a group of guys got in her way, forcing her to move around them. So far, in Amber’s opinion, following Janelle is just like being on a wild goose chase.

She then spots that dark brown, shoulder length hair and tan skin that she has come to know so well; Janelle.

Slowly, yet quickly, Amber catches up to her. Janelle turns at the corner and Amber hides behind a locker so she could stay unseen. The only thing Amber could to now is to keep quiet.

She turns her head and looks at Janelle. Still hidden, she could see her talking to someone. Amber cranes her neck to get a better look.

“Janelle, leave me alone.” Someone says. Amber instantly recognizes that voice, and it’s Drake’s voice.

She clenches a fist, but stays hidden. She doesn’t make a sound and listens for what happens next, still looking at Janelle. She can’t see Drake, as he’s hidden behind a wall.

She then sees Drake as he walks away from the lockers, and instantly, Amber draws back, careful enough not to bang on the blue, metal locker behind her.

“Drake,” she hears Janelle sneer. Amber look over again, and Janelle is holding onto his arm, keeping him from going any further.

“What do you want?” Drake asks.

“Will you go out with me?” Janelle asks and tucks her hair behind her ear.

Amber clenches her fist even tighter, put holds back from doing anything violent, like punching the locker and causing a dent in it. Or even worse, punching Janelle –no matter how much she deserves it– and strangling her.

She snaps back into reality and lets her arm drop when she hears Drake sigh.

“No,” he says. “I have a girlfriend, who happens to be your best friend.”

My best friend? Are you an idiot or something? I hate Janelle’s guts! Amber screams in her head.

“So,” Janelle says and places her arms behind her back. Amber has a clear view of them now as she stays hidden. “She doesn’t have to know that.” Janelle finishes.
