The Children with the Color Names

Chapter 12- Amber's Date

          The school bell rings and Amber immediately rises from her seat.

          “What’s the rush?” Violet asks.

          “I gotta go somewhere,” Amber says grabbing her book bag off the ground.

          “Where are you going?” Blue asks but Amber is already running out the door.

          She runs through the hall ways and down the stairs and out the front doors.

          Oh, I can’t be late! Amber thinks as she runs to the park where she is expecting to meet Drake.

          Since she doesn’t have a car yet, she is going have to run three blocks and two stoplights. Amber sighs as she thinks about the distance but just tells herself to deal with it. As long as I’m not too late, you’re fine. She thinks reassuring herself.

          Eventually she gets there and looks around for her boyfriend.

          “There you are.” Someone says making Amber jump.

          Amber turns around and looks up to see Drake. “Oh, hi Drake,” she says standing on her tippy toes and gives him a small kiss.

          “Hey baby,” he says and grins.

          Amber smiles as she puts down her bag. “Do you have the blanket?” Amber asks.

           Drake nods and takes out a red and white striped blanket from his bag. Amber helps him spread it across the ground.

          “So, you hungry,” Amber asks giving Drake a hug once they’re finished with the blanket.

          Drake nods and grins. “So, Amber, I’ve been meaning to talk to you.”

          “About what,” Amber asks looking up into Drake’s dark blue eyes.

          Drake sighs. “Well, since school started again, I’ve been feeling like your trying to avoid me. I mean, you’ve been hanging out with those three kids, including my sister, Violet. I thought you two hated each other.” He says looking quite nervous. He then bites his lip.

          Amber looked at him and sighs. “I’m sorry. I’ve had a lot on my mind lately. I promise you, once things get better, we’ll hang out more.” She then gives him another quick little kiss, and lies down on her back, completely forgetting about the food.

          Drake looks at her, and lies down next to her. He grabs her hand and Amber smiles and looks up at the clouds above her.

          After about twenty minutes of just lying there, Amber sits up. Oh, I forgot the food. She thinks and turns to Drake. “Drake, I’ll be right back.”

          “Where are you going?” Drake asks sitting up.

           “I just have to get something. Be right back.” Amber says and kisses him again. She then stands up.

          “Uh, okay.” Drake says. “I’ll be here when you get back.”

          “Of course you will,” Amber says and runs over to a food court on the other side of the park.

          “Why hello, may I help you?” A woman asks looking at Amber.

          “Um, can I have two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and two apples please? Oh, along with a coke and orange soda,” Amber asks the woman while taking out her wallet.

          The woman nods and gives Amber a basket with the food and drinks. “That’ll be five dollars and fifty cents.” The woman says and Amber gives her the money.

          “Thank you,” Amber says and walks away.

          She gets back to her little picnic spot and sees Drake. She runs up to him smiling, as usual. “Hey!” she says sitting down.

          “What’s that you got there?” Drake asks looking at Amber’s basket.

          “It’s just some food, I forgot to bring some. Here is a sandwich for you.” She handed him one of the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, an apple and the coke.

          “Thanks.” Drake says and kisses Amber. Amber grins in the kiss and kisses him back slowly.

          He then draws away and bites into his sandwich. He then opens the coke can and starts drinking, Amber does the same.

          As Amber bites into her sandwich, she hears something, a very faint whisper in the back of her head.

          Find the lost treasure…

          Amber looks at Drake curiously. “Did you say something Drake?”

          “No.” Drake says in response. He tilts his head looks at Amber with a confused look on his face. “Are you okay?”

          Amber nods. “Yeah, I’m fine. I just thought I heard something.

          Find it. Find the hidden treasure.

          The voice she is apparently hearing is quieter than a whisper. Amber shakes her head and ignored it as it continues.

          She and Drake spend the next few hours laughing and talking, until Amber hears a horn honk.

          Amber looks up, and noticed her mom’s car. Dang it! “I have to go, sorry Drake, my mom’s here.” Amber sadly says. “If I don’t go now my mom might throw another fit or something.”

          “Oh, ok. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Drake says and frowns.

          Amber nods and gets up. “By baby,” she says.

          She helps Drake onto his feet and she pulls him into a hug, and he kisses her again. “By Amber,” he says before Amber takes off, grabbing her book bag.
