Violet hears noises surrounding her and then the smell of pancakes and maple syrup.
She flutters her eyes open finding her little sisters, Melanie and Natalie kneeling on her bed in front of her and they are smiling real big. She then notices that Drake is leaning on the wooden stick thing at the edge of her bed and he is next to her parents, and her mom is holding a stack of pancakes with a candle lit. And everyone but her mom has a present in their hands, but her dad has two presents. Aw, they each got me separate presents! And a breakfast in bed! They are so sweet. Violet thinks to herself, still a bit tired.
“Happy birthday sweetie,” Violet’s dad says and hands her the two presents he was holding. Violet puts the presents on the desk next to her bed and her mom hands her the pancakes.
“Make a wish!” Melanie and Natalie both say at the same time, which Violet has to admit that it is kind of creepy. They then put the presents they were holding in front of them with big smiles still across their faces.
“Oh, thank you guys! Thanks so much!” Violet says happily. She then looks around at her family smiling and blows out the candle wishing that this year would be her best birthday yet.
“Oh my little sister, now fourteen, how can this be Violet?” Drake asks and sits down next to her and hands her his present.
Violet laughs and takes the present from his hands. “I’m not sure, I was born on this date and I grew up and this is my fourteenth year of living?” she sarcastically says, more in a form of a question.
“Okay, well you have precisely thirty minutes to eat those pancakes, get dressed and do whatever you do in the morning before I take you to school. So hurry it up.” Drake says and ruffles up Violet’s hair and gets up and leaves with the rest of the family.
Violet eats the pancakes quickly by stuffing them in her mouth. The warm taste of them is still fresh which makes her feel delighted.
Once she is done, Violet puts the plate on her night stand next to her lamp and slides out of bed. She grabs her clothes and walks over to the bathroom and takes a shower. The warm water hitting against her skin makes her feel fresh and relaxed. After her shower she dries herself off with the towel and puts on her clothes, a dark purple shirt and short jeans. She then dries her hair and brushes it making it look soft and neat.
“Violet, come on!” Drake calls from outside the bathroom. “Hurry up or I’m going to leave without you!
“I’m coming!” She calls back and steps out of the bathroom. “Just let me get my shoes.” She says and runs into her room and slips on her shoes. She then runs downstairs into the living room and heads towards the kitchen and pours herself some milk.
“Come on Violet, we don’t want to be late. Mom already dropped off Melanie and Nat at their school and dad’s at work.” Drake says running down the stairs.
“Kay.” Violet says and heads towards the door, grabs her bag and walks outside.
Drake unlocks the car door and Violet walks in and sits in the front. Drake then takes off, driving to school. “You are going to have a nice birthday, trust me.”
“Yeah, what if I’m not? All my other birthday parties have been a disaster.” Violet says feeling a little depressed. And it’s true, her birthdays and birthday parties have never gone as planned and she never had fun.
