Dylan's POV

Yesterday Wes announced that from now on we'd be filming outside, so outside we are. It's a huge area in the desert, filled with loads of mutilated and demolished buildings. Right now the property crew are putting up some giant green screens. I observe them for a while, inquiring how all that green can turn into things only seen in dreams. It's amazing, and I'm always left just as stunned when I see the end results. Speaking of being stunned, I spot Thomas, twenty meters away, sitting in all his beauty on a rock. He's focused on the huge green screen as well, his eyebrows furrowed in his usual frown and he's squinting with one eye because if the bright sun. Since I've got nothing better to do, I head over to him. Maybe I can use the green screens to fuel a conversation?

"Hi." I greet and settle down beside him, on the sand. I pray to all the higher powers that I won't end up still finding sand in my boxers two weeks after this.

"Yo," He smiles and turns his head to look down at me, still squinting slightly but his furrow disappears. We make eye contact and all the things I was about to say vanish with a desert wind. We both stay quiet, not wanting to ruin the moment. It's like we're having a staring contest. In the background I can hear the cast and crew chatting and joking around, but I've only got eyes for Thomas (as usual).

I take this as an opportunity to study his face more thoroughly. His usually brown almond eyes are specked with gold in the sunlight. His nose, I've noted, is perfectly straight and his thin, pink lips are perfectly kissable. His sharp cheekbones (which you can cut stone with) shine in the sun thanks to the highlighter the make-up team put on. They play a big part in the triangular shape of his face. His hair is blond and slightly more so due to the exposure of sunlight and it's pushed up slightly to the left.

He is beautiful and I could just kiss him right now. I don't act on the impulse, but my cheeks heat up just at the very thought of it. There's a lot of people surrounding us and by the way he may not even want to kiss me. It'd be pretty awkward if I just--

"Your eyes." Thomas blunts, breaking the silence and my train of thought. I frown and tilt my head a bit to the right at the sudden and very random mention.

"What's up with my eyes?"

"They're..." A smile plays on Thomas' lips. "Brown!"

I giggle at the slightly stupid comment. What's up with him? "Yeah, they've been for a while."

He blushes and laughs as he speaks,
"No, I mean, they were almost green before!"

"You sure?"

"Totally. But now, they're brown, like mine!" He says and points at his eyes. They are indeed brown. Ten points to Trombone.

"No, yours are more beautiful--" My eyes widen as I realise what I just said. I want to punch myself. Or turn into sand. "I-I mean..."

I bite my lip and look down at the ground since I know exactly what I mean.

Why do I always fuck up?

"I don't know." Thomas says, his brittish accent thick and I notice it carries a slightly whitty tone with it. "But it's adorable."

"W-what?" Did he just say I was adorable?

"You asked why you always fuck up and I replied that it's beyond my knowledge, but that it's adorable."

My face probably looks as if I've been out in the sun for days as I realise that I actually spoke that thought out loud. Could it can any more embarassing than this?

"I'm sorry, I..."

"No, don't be sorry. But, I still think your eyes are even more beautiful than mine."

And with that he rises and walks off, leaving me to stare, completely stunned, after him.

-

An hour or so later, when they're done setting up the green screens and we are done rehearsing our lines for the first scene filmed outside, we all gather to discuss it.

When we're done with that, we finally start shooting. First shot of the day is the scene where Teresa and Group B abduct Thomas and the other gladers to group B's liar (A/n: this is from the book, not the movie).

"And... Action!" Wes yells and we commence the scene.

We're halfway through the scene when a scream cuts through the scorching desert air. We soon find the source is Kaya, and that it's not a part of the scene.

"Cut!" Wes immediately shouts and we all run over to her to find her settled on the ground. Her pants are pulled up all the way from her ankles to her knees and her face is pale.

"What happened--" I start, but gasp when I spot two tiny, red marks on her left ankle.

"It was a snake, and it but me! I didn't see it and I think I accidentally stepped on it so it bit me!" She cries and hyperventilates. I notice I'm doing the same, oh God.

"Can you describe its apperance? Kaya, this is important, what did it look like?" Jacob asks her and she shakes her head, her black hair moving along with the shakes. She looks desperately at us.

"I-I don't know. It was very fast... But I think it was chequered... Like white and black or something..." Is all she says before her blue eyes rolls backwards and she faints.
