Killian, Robin, Regina, Graham, and Ruby piled into their cars and followed the ambulance to the hospital. Ruby was on the phone with Mary Margaret or David. Robin, Regina, and Graham were quiet in the back. Even though this scheme was a plan, Regina was upset. Neal would have gotten Emma no matter what had happened at Ruby's party. They pulled up at the hospital and walked behind Emma who was on the stretcher. They rushed her into emergency surgery and everyone had to stay behind. Even though he was against it, Robin made Killian go home to take a shower and change. Half an hour later, Killian came back and Emma's parents were there.
"Any news?" Killian asked walking in.
"No not yet." Robin said.
They all were on edge. Every time a nurse or doctor walked into the waiting room, they got false hope it was for them.
"Family and friends of Emma Swan?" A nurse asked.
Mary Margaret and David stood up, and the kids stayed behind. They went to the side and talked to the nurse.
"When your daughter came in here, she had lost a lot of blood, but there was enough for her to make it into surgery. It was a clean shot, and it barely missed her heart. If she would have gotten shot one centimeter more, it would have gone through her heart."
Mary Margaret put her hand on her mouth in shock. David put his arm around her. These actions made the kids feel horrible. They couldn't hear what they were saying, so they assumed the worst.
"Is she awake?" David asked.
"Yes. She is waking up now. She actually wanted you guys to come and see her. Her room number is 404." The nurse walked away, and the five kids stood up.
"Is she okay? Can we see her?" Killian asked.
"We are going to see her first. We won't be long. Then you guys can go in. She's in room 404." David said.
Mary Margaret and David walked away and the kids hugged each other. She was okay. She was fine. Ten minutes later Emma's parents walked out and told Killian that they were going home. Emma didn't want them to stay. The five of them walked in and when he saw her on the bed, Killian almost burst into tears.
"How are you feeling Emma?" Regina asked.
"Well other than being in a lot of pain and just getting shot, I'm doing okay." The last sentence was nothing but sarcastic.
Ruby rushed to her side and grabbed onto her hand. "We will find that son of a bitch. He won't get away with this."
"I promise this is it. He has crossed a line and he will pay." Killian said.
"I appreciate you guys being there for me, but he is skilled. He won't get caught unless he wants to be, or unless you catch him by surprise." Emma said.
Everyone was silent. Nobody knew what to say. Eventually Regina, Graham, Robin, and Ruby left so it was only Killian and Emma in the room.
"He tried to kill you because of me." Killian said.
"Your blaming yourself for this? It's my fault. I was the one who got into trouble with him in the first place." Emma said.
"He tried to kill you because of me. He wants me to suffer."
"Please Killian don't blame yourself. I should have just left with him like he wanted me to. Then I wouldn't be laying in a hospital bed."
"He wanted you to leave?"
"Where the hell have you been? He wants me to go back with him to a life of crime. He thought I liked getting in trouble."
Killian kneeled down at Emma's hand which was hanging off of the bed. "Were you going to leave?"
"No. I like it with you. I don't like being on the run."
He kissed her hand like he did on their first date. "I love you Emma."
"I know. I love you too, but I can't keep doing this. Something needs to happen."
"I know. I will catch him myself if I have to. I care about you too much to lose you."
"Killian, I really am sorry." A tear fell off onto her cheek and he wiped it away.
"Don't feel sorry. I promise you that I will not leave your side." He kissed her hand again and more tears fell from her eyes. She scooted over and patted the space next to her. He got up and they cuddled together.
"I love you too much to put you through this." Emma said.
"And I love you so much that I'm staying in it. I will protect you until the end of the world Swan." Killian said.
"You have to go. Visiting hours are over."
"No I told you that I'm not leaving your side."
Emma shut her eyes and fell asleep. She didn't mean to, but it came faster than she expected. Killian was up for most of the night. Emma was okay but confined to a hospital bed. Neal was out running around wondering if he had finished the job once and for all. He probably left the state. Killian was more than a pretty face and a jock. He was Emma's boyfriend. And he was going to protect her at all costs, no matter what happened to him in the process. Eventually he fell asleep. He dreamt that he was in the woods. Trees were everywhere and the crunchy fall leaves were underneath his feet. He began walking and found himself at Ruby and Emma's special place, but he wasn't alone. Neal stood in front of him with blood all over his hands. Killian looked down and there was a gun in his hand. Neal raised his gun up, but before he could shoot it, Killian shot Neal and he fell to the ground. As the bullet collided with his body, Killian jolted awake. He was breathing heavy and was covered in sweat. He looked over and Emma wasn't in the bed. It was still dark out, and Killian panicked. He looked around and saw a light on in the room. His heart rate slowed and she walked out of the bathroom.
"I thought that he came and took you." Killian said.
"No. I had to go to the bathroom. Do you have to go with me for that too?" Emma asked playfully.
Killian laughed and let her lay down and get comfortable. He twirled his finger around in her hair. "No. I just got worried."
Emma smiled and fell asleep again. This time sleep came fast for Killian. He knew that Emma was safe while she was in his arms, and she felt safe. She knew that he would protect her.
No matter what.
